New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hi and welcome. I am just north of you in Indiana. I thin you picked a great community to get back into crocheting. Looking forward to seeing your work. I am sure it will be great.
Amanda,
So glad your problem is resolved!
It's wonderful to hand crafts down to the next generation! I believe it's our own way of storytelling. We're telling the story of who we are by what we create, and even better, the next generation picks it up and tells the story in their own way. This way, we all are involved in the same story, with our own variations. LOL, that's my theory, anyway!
It's also a nice bond to sit with someone and teach them something that will enrich their lives and lead them to create beautiful things!
Kathy,
Welcome!
So happy you did find hooking, LOL...it's a lot of fun!
What a great idea to use your time at home to be productive with your hooking.
Nothern Michigan...upper or lower peninsula? I hear it's beautiful in the upper peninsula and spots north in the lower peninsula. I was in Port Huron many years ago on a trip, crossing into Canada. We chose Port Huron figuring Detroit would have a lot of traffic. Port Huron definitely didn't have a lot of traffic!
Very glad you've found us! I can honestly tell you there's always something to learn with crochet. That's one of the joys! I've been crocheting for over 35 years (which means before I was born, because I'll only admit to being 25 years old ) and still learn new things!
Yes, you can edit your photo, though you'll have to use a graphics program for that. If you're on a PC I can give you the links to two very powerful (and free!) graphics programs, where you can remove the background before sending it through the freePatternWizard. I can't explain how to use either program because I use an ancient graphics program, circa 1998 or so. Well, it works, so that's what counts! LOL.
Thanks Sherry. The only ones I've seen worked of a portrait and done in embroidery floss were done vertically from side to side and I had planned on going horzontal from bottom to top.
This piece is coming out 150 stitches wide and 295 tall with 60 (yikes) colors used! Does this sound right?
I scanned the pic in upright and planned or working it just like we'd do a regular afghan. Bottom to top, horizontal rows.

Lilbj,
Hi, my suggestion would be
to use a graphics program for that. If you're on a PC, I can
suggest two very powerful (and best of all, FREE) programs that are
available that will allow you to remove the background. I know most
people believe Photoshop is the only way to go, but as it's a bit
pricey, I like to suggest these programs. I can't tell you how they work, as I
use an ANCIENT (circa 1998 ) program, but there are online
manuals and tutorials that explain how they work.
