New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

I wanted to introduce myself and ask a question. From northern VA. Been crocheting for many years sporadically. Made a good dozen blankets. Love graphgans. Looking to make my own from a picture of a will blanket.
Can anyone help me!!? I am just lost.
I know the general design I just cannot make a pattern that is equal on all sides? Ggrrrrr.
Thanks in advance!
Hello!
I have done graphgans before, but I am new to making my own pattern. I created a pattern, and I realize it is supposed to be done in single crochet, but I am wondering if I can convert it to half double crochet. Would I need to do double the stitches across in this case?
Thanks!!
Oh, no problem. I just wanted to be able to update my client...she been understanding...
Thanks!
De'Andrea,
No worries, just glad to see you're back!
Can't wait to see your beaded vulture tapestry. I love anything unusual!

Welcome! Your message is most certainly
allowed...this is what we're here for!
Here
are a couple of suggestions that may help. For one thing, you need
to knit looser for this technique, as pulling too tight can cause
bunching as you describe.
Another idea: are
you using bobbins of yarn or actual skeins? Bobbins are more
portable, so to speak, and are far less unwieldy than trying to use
entire skeins, so you can control them better.
Also, yarns shouldn't be carried over too long of a
distance...they should only be carried over 3 stitches at most. To
keep the floats from being too long, yarns should be crossed over
each other at the back of your project about every 2 or 3 stitches
or so. This will help to keep extra-long pieces from forming and
bunching up your work.
This isn't to
say there may not be other factors, but these are the most common
possibilities.
Hope that
helps!
