New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

That is a very beautiful blanket. I love the creativity that you used with your pattern!

Picachu,
Welcome!
There's a
calculation involved if you don't have fabric measurements. But the
good news is, you don't need to reinvent the wheel! Someone has an
excellent cross stitch fabric calculator.
https://yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm
In addition to the number of stitches either way, you do
need to know the count of the fabric you're using, because that
will make a difference. 14 count vs 11 count is very different!
This calculator also allows for the
specification of a border, if you plan to use a mat, and another
calculation for extra fabric for finishing.
Hope this helps!
Alswoman,
Welcome!
The word chart
reads as you would crochet it. It's made so you don't have to cut
off each row at the end, but just continue by turning your work as
usual. Row 2 will be the reverse of row 1 and
so on.
Nettie,
Welcome!
The question
that comes to mind here, if I'm understanding this correctly, is:
were there grid lines on the picture you put through the
freePatternWizard? If so, the software isn't set up to recognize
gridlines and remove them. If not, please tell me more about your
picture...is it a jpg or a gif or...? Is it very large or very
small and are you attempting to use the freePatternWizard to resize
it? (This is not recommended.)
Lilbj,
Hi, my suggestion would be
to use a graphics program for that. If you're on a PC, I can
suggest two very powerful (and best of all, FREE) programs that are
available that will allow you to remove the background. I know most
people believe Photoshop is the only way to go, but as it's a bit
pricey, I like to suggest these programs. I can't tell you how they work, as I
use an ANCIENT (circa 1998 ) program, but there are online
manuals and tutorials that explain how they work.
That is a very beautiful blanket. I love the creativity that you used with your pattern!
