New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hello all
i am new to this board. i was wondering if i could get help creating a paatern? i tried to use the pattern maker but it didnt turn out right.
thanks in advance
Sherry,
Thanks so much for the great input!
I've had the trouble you mentioned with the Simply Soft. I've never used it for a graphghan, but for other projects, there were some issues with weaving tails. It's also a bit thinner so I've had to use a larger hook (or needles) to get the right gauge, as well (which can make it too loose or lacy), and it's too soft to use for some stitch patterns, as it doesn't really hold up to them. I've used it for baby blankets in the past, and for that it worked quite well.
Red Heart is what I hear about from a lot of people, due to the number of colors and easy availability.
Chris,
Welcome!
Close! Your chain doesn't actually count as a row, so you start reading from right to left, and then when you reverse you read left to right.
Welcome!
Please don't tear your hair out. The freePatternWizard currently won't convert a diagram. At this time its function is to strictly take a photo or artwork and turn it into colors that can be used to reproduce the photo or artwork as a beadwork, crochet, cross stitch or knitting pattern.
If your diagram is an already graphed pattern of colors, the freePatternWizard won't take that and turn it into a word chart. If your diagram is made up of crochet or knitting symbols, the freePatternWizard likewise can't turn that into a word chart.
We do have many other features planned, and we've had previous requests for word charts from diagrams, so this will likely be a future feature, but at this time I'm sorry to say it's not a function that's readily available. We do take suggestions under advisement and we also strive to enable our most requested ones sooner, but please note we have over 100 features planned and are getting to them as quickly as possible!

Daniel4ever,
Welcome!
I think that's
an awesome idea with your daughter's boyfriend's saying as a family
slogan! (Do you care to say what it is? If not,
that's fine!)
I can completely relate to
working with too small materials. A lot of finished and
half-finished items I've found over the years are things I couldn't
possibly work with now. Smaller count fabrics practically make me
break out in hives!
Anyway, the idea
of using plastic canvas is wonderful. It's big enough to see (isn't that a
great qualification?) and it will be far easier to work on. If you
don't mind slanting stitches (I'm sorry to say we have no
representation of it at this time), you could even use a
needlepoint stitch instead of a cross stitch.
What I would say about using the freePatternWizard so
that it doesn't get frustrating is to find a clear, unfussy font.
If you use something with thick and thin lines or serifs, the
freePatternWizard likely won't give a pleasing result. I know block
letters don't always look nice, but there are some fonts out there
that are a little less blocky and still pretty solid.
Please do keep
us informed of your progress!
