New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hi All - I'm hoping someone can help!
I've bought a pattern to do a cross stitch but it is massive! I thought I could take a picture and run it through the wizard so that I can reduce the size but the gridlines are coming out on the pattern even though they are not visable to the naked eye. Does anybody know how to get rid of these or has anyone got a suggestion on how to reduce the pattern? Even using a 20 count Aida it's still too big.
Thanks in advance
Hi, and welcome!
Here are a couple suggestions to try.
1. Try turning on the "Anti-alias" check-box in section 8.
2. Try doing slight adjustments to brightness and contrast in section 8. You may try various combinations like set brightness to 5 or 10, or set contrast to 5 or 10, try negative 5 or 10, and see if anything makes it better.
3. You may want to try using shades of gray in section 5.
I would think that a combination of brightness and/or contrast setting changes and possibly enabling Anti-alias would be your best solution. Let me know if this helps. Otherwise I'll try to suggest something else.

thexstitcher,
You're absolutely doing this right! and THANK YOU so very much for being interested in test stitching my patterns. I have been a member of your facebook group for a little while now! I haven't posted anything in there [or any other group] because I didn't want to run afoul of anyone's rules. I tried to offer my free "how to create your own knit cowl" and the owner of the group took such offense at me she banned me from her group ... I'm not here to compete with anyone, it's just my belief there's plenty of room for all craft type designers.
Here is a link to my cross stitch designs. In a pm, let me know which you would like to test together with an email address and I will send you the pattern. Also, for things like the baby sampler, if you just wanted to make the bear, that would be great too.
Thank you again!

Melanie,
My machine does have a wool program, but I like to use my own settings as I don't want the machine to centrifuge my stuff to hard.. :p (That sounded so wrong on so many levels. )
:p

Chrisbst,
Welcome!
It's a bit
difficult when you need certain specific sizes, plus, we don't
currently offer HDC patterns, only SC.
One
solution might be to try C2C. It actually isn't difficult at all,
and it goes soooo fast! There are many tutorials on YouTube that
teach C2C. If you can HDC and DC you can definitely work C2C...the
most difficult part I found as a newbie to C2C was trying to get
the second block started correctly. But with a tutorial on YouTube
or somewhere (so long ago, I can't remember!), it went like a
breeze.
Another is to find an image to put
through the freePatternWizard, but please note your finished
pattern will be single crochet, not half double.
A very tedious option is to find if someone has a
pattern like what you want, in half double crochet, though it may
not match the size you want. That's simply a matter of searching,
unfortunately, which may or may not give results.
I'm so sorry I don't have any better solutions for you!
I've been there...same thing...proprietary image, pattern in a
stitch I really, really didn't want to do, nothing to use to make
the pattern to my specifications.
One other idea,
which is probably stupidly simple and not really what you're
looking for, is to use Air Force colors, perhaps in stripes or
maybe make a solid rectangle for the center, then pick up stitches
and go around the edges, making larger borders in other colors, so
you keep making it wider and longer until you've reached the
desired size (or thereabouts) in different colors in your chosen
colorway.
Hope that helps.
