New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Vonnie,
Welcome!
I'm sorry to say we don't have anything like that available with the freePatternWizard. While it's a wonderful idea, the processes involved would be much more complex than just plotting out a basic picture as the freePatternWizard does, since it would involve looking at an actual finished project, probably from multiple angles, in order to make the most basic pattern. It would likely require something more like the kind of work done in CG for movies. I'm not saying this is impossible; I like to think nothing is , but my guess is it's improbable, at least at this stage of technology.
CathyJessy,
The program requires your device to have a function called "filepicker". Your original iPad does not have this function.
Unfortunately if your device does not have the ability to choose files and send them to remote systems (like the freePatternWizard), you will not be able to send a graphics file.
You would need to either be able to install some sort of application (app) that adds this "filepicker" function or use another device.
The problem is not on the freePatternWizard side. The issue is with your device. You may also try asking at an Apple message board.

Sandy,
Welcome! So happy to hear you like the freePatternWizard.
I'm sorry to say that the only option for the pattern on-screen is in color. You would have to use the PDF output for symbols. I know it can be a bit much to print out all of the pages...though we've been talking about future options to resize PDF pages.
If you'd like to post photos of your work sometime (whether or not it was created with the freePatternWizard), please feel free, so we can all drool!
it's the same every where in the world though

MHershey,
Welcome!
Okay, it's
going to sound pretty complicated, which it really
isn't.
In order to make it a certain size,
you have to know how many stitches per inch there are in your
gauge. That requires making something called a gauge swatch. Every
gauge swatch depends on a number of factors: your yarn, hook and
your own tension. Even with the same fiber and hook, you and I
would very likely have completely different gauges.
You need to make at least a 4 inch x 4 inch swatch
(square) in your chosen yarn (and some people recommend more like 5
inch x 5 inch), with your chosen hook. The purpose of this square
is to tell you how many stitches per inch are in your gauge. So if
you measure 4 inches of your swatch and determine you have 20
stitches in those 4 inches, you would divide that 20 by 4 to come
up with 5 stitches per inch.
Then you would
multiply that by the number of stitches across, so in this case, 5
x 60 = 300 stitches.
Once you know how many
stitches across, you can then calculate where the center of your
star would be and place it in your image accordingly. Also, when
you make your image, the best thing to do is make it so pixels =
stitches across. So if you want to make it 300 stitches across, for
example, the best image will be 300 pixels across. The length is a
bit more difficult. You can calculate the number of rows in the
same way you calculated the stitches across, but the
freePatternWizard at this time doesn't allow you to designate the
number of rows, so the best thing to do is make your best
estimation. Crochet stitches are not square, they're rectangular,
so the calculation of rows = pixels won't work here.
Hope that helps! It sounds more complex than it is, but
swatching is essential for so many things, particularly fitted
garments and other projects that require actual measurements, so
unless you're making something where a swatch isn't important, such
as a scarf, swatching will help to save you a lot of tearing out
beautifully made items that would otherwise end up too large or too
small.
