New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hi! I'm new to stitchboard so please bare with me. I've been looking around trying to find the answers I need. Something just isn't clicking .
For example... I did a single crochet swatch that was 9 inches wide. My gauge measured 5 sts per inch. If I want to add a picture that fits within these measurements, how would I go about doing that ? I also chained 40 to start ( not sure if you need to know that)
I see conversations referring to "Aida stitch count" but I'm not sure what that is ...
Once I understand , I feel stitchboard could be a game changer with the items I could create so I'm anxious to learn.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
De'Andrea,
I LOVE your cross stitch work! Your friend is soooooooooo lucky!
The frameless "frames" are amazing and look perfect. How did you tack down the edges before fringing? I learned a stitch for that once, but have no idea what it was called and couldn't do that again without knowing what the stitch was and how to make it. But I'm thinking now, after seeing your work, that I have some pieces where the fringing would look great. I doubt there's enough room to cross stitch frames, but maybe a 2-cross-stitch-wide "frame" would work, or just a fringing stitch. I never framed a lot of my pieces back when I made them years ago because it was so prohibitively expensive and nobody in my area knew anything about framing cross stitch.
But I love that "natural" look, with the fringed edges.
The branches hanging down over the horse's head are unusual...and sooooo beautiful. They add something very special to the piece! I can see the snowflakes that are falling in front of the horse's head...they're perfect.
I also disagree with your mom about cross stitch not being creative...obviously, you've made things that are VERY creative! I think the way you've combined things is absolutely genius.
I can't wait to see what you'll do with Chinese silk embroidery...I know it's going to be fantastic! What kind of subject will you try for your first piece?
You have such a talent...you should think about desginging your own cross stitch pieces to sell. (Maybe embroidery pieces, too, but I don't know how that would work.) You're soooooooooooo talented and I can't wait to see what you'll do next. Thank you so much for posting your cross stitch work (and giving me the idea of what to do with those old unframed cross stitch pieces!).
Hi, Calipage.
I see what you're talking about. As we have always posted, we initially did our best to get the colors right for beads, yarn, and floss. Once in a while someone reports an incorrect color but after a few years, there are not as many problems.
I did just scan through the Delica palette of colors and verified that DB1744 is the only one that is entered as nearly black when it should have color. I'll correct this color as soon as I post this message. One other problem we have with bead colors is that there is not really a standard color value from which we can enter into our database. Even bead manufacturers don't have color values by which we can use.
As an example, here are a few different images of DB1744 beads:
These images are from various sources, all showing DB1744. I realize none are close to black but I'm just letting you know that the colors we use in our palettes may or may not be the actual colors you see when you get the beads.
So in answer to your question, it's rare to find a color that's way off in our program (like this particular bead color). It was definitely incorrect in the database and will get corrected immediately.
We also thank everyone who does report incorrect, discontinued, or new colors.
I apologize for this and actually just updated the database. Here are the before and after colors:

Is the Choose my own colors feature working? I have been trying to generate a pattern using this option, but it keeps only choosing black and white in the finished pattern.
