New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn!  If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you.  This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic!  (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)

New!  The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

Welcome to Stitchboard!  Feel free to sit and stay awhile.  Check out our new Premier features.  In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request!  We have many more features planned, too!  Laughing

Sunny,
Welcome! Smile
My best suggestion is to find a font that will be clear when pixellized into the number of stitches across for your afghan. If you make the name with that font, it should be created as the number of pixels = the number of stitches. Meaning, if you have a width of 100 stitches in your afghan, the image of that font should be set at a width of 100 pixels. So if you're creating an image of 100 pixels wide, you can simply use a font size that fits into the 100 pixels, if that makes any sense. Smile And then, as previously mentioned, make sure it's a font that turns out clear enough to read and looks the way you want it to look.
If you don't have a graphics program to do this and you're on a PC, there are at least two (and probably more) free programs that are very powerful and will allow you to create such images. These two programs have been around for a very, very long time, so they're quite reliable and are well known.
One, called Gimp, is available here:
https://www.gimp.org/
The other is called paint.net and is available here:
https://www.getpaint.net/
Both programs are fully supported through user communities. (I'm sorry to say I have no information on how to use them, as I only occasionally use these myself, but only because I mainly use an ancient, ancient program from, no kidding, 1998. Embarassed Yes, it's 22 years old! But it does what I need and I know it well.)
Hope that helps! Smile

Kat,
Wow, so glad you've joined the discussion! Kiss (And I love your username.)
Feel free to share pictures of your work...we love to drool! Wink
That's so cool about having 200 years of crochet in your family. Kiss That's got to be some kind of record!
And great job, getting your daughter involved in crocheting. Kiss Seriously, there's nothing better than starting a crocheting tradition! So awesome!
I also like to crochet and watch TV...things just don't move quickly enough, so crochet helps pass the time...and it keeps the hands busy! Smile

Welcome! Smile

Please don't tear your hair out.  The freePatternWizard currently won't convert a diagram.  At this time its function is to strictly take a photo or artwork and turn it into colors that can be used to reproduce the photo or artwork as a beadwork, crochet, cross stitch or knitting pattern.

If your diagram is an already graphed pattern of colors, the freePatternWizard won't take that and turn it into a word chart.  If your diagram is made up of crochet or knitting symbols, the freePatternWizard likewise can't turn that into a word chart.

We do have many other features planned, and we've had previous requests for word charts from diagrams, so this will likely be a future feature, but at this time I'm sorry to say it's not a function that's readily available.  We do take suggestions under advisement and we also strive to enable our most requested ones sooner, but please note we have over 100 features planned and are getting to them as quickly as possible!  Smile

yeah we can and one of the aliens this side of the water is going to get ice cubes shoved down his back in a minute if he doesn't get his freezing cold hands off my ears

Neave,

Thank you so much for all of those helpful links!  Kiss  It's so wonderful that you found someone who makes videos that are easy to follow.  Many people are very visual with learning, so good teaching videos are a must!

Oooh, love the Halloween items!  Kiss
