New!  The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn!  If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you.  This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic!  (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)

New!  The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

Welcome to Stitchboard!  Feel free to sit and stay awhile.  Check out our new Premier features.  In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request!  We have many more features planned, too!  Laughing

Hope that helps!

Ann Benson has a great book on tapestry crochet.  I have made many projects with size12 pearl cotton an 11/0 Czech seed beads with beaded crochet, which is very easy.  The hardest part is making sure the beginning chain is straight and flat, after that it is simple.  There are tutorials on this technique.  If you can work a chain and single crochet you will be fine!  As for durability, I made a cell phone case which has not come apart after a few years of abuse!  I would suggest scanning a simple photo into the pattern wizard and have it charted for beading.  The key I came up with had Myuki beads, but you most likely can substitute Czech beads if you can find the colors as they are less expensive and are round as opposed to the Myuki which tend to be more tube shaped although they are the same size.  I hope this helps.

deehansen,

If you're referring to a word chart that tells you when to change colors, this particular user didn't design the pattern that way, only as a graph. The freePatternWizard will create word charts when requested, but if the option isn't requested at the time it isn't possible to work backwards and have it read the pattern to determine when color changes occur. This is purely the choice of the user. Also, if we were to take any old graph and have the ability to somehow turn it into a word chart, the problem would be that people would take proprietary pattern graphs and turn those into word charts, where patterns would have to be made up before it could be determined it was copyright infringement. So by turning any graphs into word patterns, there would be good chances the program would then be misused quite a bit.

I can certainly understand why you'd prefer a word chart...I prefer them myself. Unfortunately, I can't change how the user decided to output this chart. My best suggestion would be to add the grid lines. I know it's a lot more tedious, but that way the pattern will be much easier to follow.

Kellie,

I'll have Terry (Support) take a look at this and see if he has other ideas.  Paint should be fine as a graphics program, though GIMP would be more sophisticated and have more options.

I'm knitting a blanket, 16 ply, on number 9 needles. I'm planning on doing a relief pattern of a dragon on it. the blanket is 206 stitches wide, which I figure will make the blanket end up about 2 mtrs wide. so, my issue is that the pattern generator has a maximum of 150 stitches wide, so the way I figure, I can divide the stitch count by 1/2 and do 4 stitches, for every one stitch on the pattern?? or do I do the pattern with 150 stitches wide, and have a border on the blanket??

I'm uncertain how "blocky" the pattern might end up looking if I don't make it exactly to the pattern.

suggestions welcomed.

thank you!
