New!  The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn!  If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you.  This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic!  (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)

New!  The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

Welcome to Stitchboard!  Feel free to sit and stay awhile.  Check out our new Premier features.  In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request!  We have many more features planned, too!  Laughing

Hi,

The program will take each image pixel across as a stitch.  So if your screen-captured image is 130 pixels across, you'll get 130 stitches.

I'm not exactly sure how you're using Excel to lay out a pattern.  Are you using a color fill-in function to fill cells?  What are your cell widths?

I just experimented using Excel to create a small 5x5 pattern (5 cells across) and set each cell to a width of 1.  I then filled in desired cells with various colors.  I filled the empty ones with white to block out the Excel column and row lines.  I then did a screen capture and saved it to a file.  I found that each Excel cell had an image pixel count of 26 pixels each.  So when I ran the image through the PatternWizard, I got a 130-stitch pattern.

In Excel Screen Pattern greatly reduced to fit here

You're not the first person to mention using Excel so if you could let me know what you're doing, maybe there's something I could do in the program to help.  It never was made to interact with Excel but please let me know how you set up your Excel and I'll think about it.

Terry

I laminate my patterns and will pick up a couple rows and lay out in front of me, when I complete 2 or 3 rows I then mark them off with wet erase markers, saving money on prints alone.
Wal-Mart has a laminating machine for 19.99 and 60 pack of sheets are 15.99 (my best investment so far)

I use this with word and chart patterns especially portrait patterns, I love it!

Hi Terry,

I did the exact same thing too..ran the re-designed image as it using actual pixels & it was fine...sorry i really should have mentioned that.  The errant colors came up when I changed from using size as the actual pixel in image to the 155 through the program.  That's when they should up...

I guess what I'm having trouble process in my non-computer oriented brain is if the image is clean going into the program, then why doesn't it stay that way during the actual conversion?  Shouldn't that size reduction be compensated for somehow within the software?  Like I said, I really don't understand much about computer stuff but is this something like what you explained in anb earlier message about photo editing programs manipulating colors?

I only did image #2 for my own use..i really don't don't why I tried to muddle the process with it...

As I explained before, working on such a small canvas is almost impossible for me.  With the program I use, when I enter the pixel sizes, that's the exact size of the image I get.  Something so small makes it quite difficult to get detail right.  I would think it might prove challenging for a few others?

If there anything you can do in the future to get the software to compensate for a size change?  In the interim, I may have to borrow my brother's desktop to design instead.  He's got these absolutely huge monitors that may show that small image I see on my laptop just a bit bigger?  At least I hope...  I'll figure something out...

But I do appreciate all your help!

Kathy

Line,

I understand.  Kiss  I would have trouble with that, too.

Hugs,
Melanie

Line,

Thanks!  Kiss  I'm desperate, as there are several irreplaceable hooks (not made anymore), so if I can get the smell to go, I can use them again!

LOL, awwww, I want you to visit so I can meet you!  Kiss

That's so sweet, but you don't have to send me Legos!  Kiss  I enjoy hearing about them!

I'm so sorry the asshat did that.  Cry  It's so wrong of him to make you cry!  He sounds like such a jerk.  I guess there's a small silver lining, in that you didn't marry him!  Can you imagine how much more difficult things would be now had you done that?  Anyway, I hope you're well rid of him from your life soon.  It can't be soon enough!  Yell

A pirate themed birthday party sounds delightful...but ugh, only 9 days away?  Surprised  I agree...a sweater is impossible...though...do you have any bulky yarn?  I wonder if you use bulky yarn, maybe even with two strands together, you can make a sweater and have it done quickly.  Just a thought!  If it's thick enough, perhaps what we call a treble or triple crochet here would work.  We have single crochet, double crochet and then treble, which isn't used as much as the double.

I was thinking about this woman who was making a gorgeous blanket out of a kind of furry yarn.  And I think she ended up doing double crochets, but it could have been done with triples, too.  It was very, very thick yarn.

If you use a shortcut, you might be able to do something fairly quickly.  Will he like it...well, that's another story, sigh.  But it might help to cut you a little slack, because otherwise, I agree...a sweater is impossible in 9 days!

What are Lego ninjagos?  Are they hard to find?

A treasure chest is a wonderful idea!  Kiss  Maybe use sugar free candies for diabetics?  Poor kid, being diabetic so young!  Cry  You could also put non-candy prizes in the treasure chest.  Little inexpensive toys, perhaps.  If you have something that's the equivalent to our dollar stores, stores which sell inexpensive items for a dollar apiece, there may be a section of what we call "party favors."  I can't remember what they sell, LOL, haven't really looked at party favors ever, but there might be little themed things that you can put in the treasure chest.

I don't think this was sold as a party favor (maybe, though)...several years ago I bought a set of adorable cat erasers in a package at a dollar store.  About 9 of them, maybe.  I did it because I like cats, but maybe there would be a similar thing of dogs or...?  The girls' party favors are usually cheap fake jewelry.  Of course you don't want that...LOL, unless you want to use some of that to be fake "valuable" treasure?

Oh, no!  Cry  Is the still slow?  It may have had a problem when you were on, and I'm so sorry if that was the case.  I don't seem to be having trouble with it now, but let me know if it continues, okay?  Kiss

Hugs,
Melanie
