Rather than filling the patterns with colors, can it fill it in with corresponding numbers or icons?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, you're looking to create a pattern with symbols only? You can do it...just be sure you're logged in at the time, then in #7, for "Output" make sure "Pattern in Pdf Format" is selected, then for "Pdf" make sure you choose "Symbols Only."
