I've been stitching since third grade and am also wanting to learn to knit and do beadwork, although I do have concerns that my cats may try to help too much.

Welcome!  Smiley  My oldest, dearest friend lives near San Antonio.

Wow, you started stitching at a mighty young age...fantastic!  Smiley

LOL, yes, cats love to be extremely helpful.  If it moves, it's their toy!  I admit to disappointing our kitty tremendously when I stitch.  When I do beadwork, I start when she's not around and have a purse or container or something ready to hold my work in progress when she makes an appearance.  Luckily, the bead organizer I use has little containers that are much too small for kitty paws (though her not successfully reaching in is unrelated to lack of trying!).  Several times, the "little helper" has plopped herself down on my bead organizer (yes, containers of beads were open) or on top of my instructions.

As for knitting, I tend to similarly have a bag or something ready to hold any work in progress, plus the rubbery point protectors for needles, to keep curious little paws or noses from poking at the bag and getting poked in the process.  There have been a few instances of tug-of-war with yarns before they were completely in the bag, but nothing that was too difficult to remedy, and (so far) no lost stitches.

It also helps to have something distracting nearby...our kitty loves to play with a shoelace.  I start snaking the shoelace around, and she's grabbing at the ends before she can worry about what's in the bag or purse or container!

If you have any pics of work you've done, please feel free to share in the photo albums!  Great eye candy is always appreciated!  Smiley

I'm a beading, knitting and crochet addict.  If that means I'm admitting I have a problem, then I admit to nothing. Please refrain from helping me.
