I Need Help!!!
March 9, 2017 at 4:01:44 PM
Ok I was trying for the first time to make the Tunisian stitch, but I have done something a little different and I was trying to Identify this unique stitch that I have done. I have search google for all different types of Tunisian stitches and can not find this one that I have made.
This stitch has 2 different sides to it. One side looks like the Tunisian stitch but the other side looks like the garter knitting stitch. Can someone tell me what type of stitch this is? or have I come up with a new type of stitch altogether?
This is the side that is facing me
and this is the other side

Robin,
I can't tell what stitch is on the "right side;" the stitches in the photo are too small for my eyes. The back looks like the back of TKS (Tunisian Knit Stitch), but the front doesn't actually appear that way. I'll see if Sherry, BetwixtTheStitch
, has some ideas on this. I use Tunisian crochet here and there, but she uses it a lot more than I do.

Robin,
It's the tunisian simple stitch, aka afghan stitch. The back of all tunisian looks like that, some looks nice and neat like your sample, sometimes it's bulkier and doesn't quite look so nice. It depends on the thickness of your yarn, and the size hook you use.
I can get the same look with Deborah Norville Everyday and an 8 mm hook, however if I use a little bit thicker yarn, like Caron One Pound and the 8 mm, I get the bumpier look on the back.
Hope that helps
Sherry

Ok Thank you. I just really don't know what type this is so, I was just wondering if this stitch has a name.

Robin,
After having my coffee and getting my brain going, I realizd it could just as easily be a reverse stitch. How did you make it? Did you insert your hook under the back bar of your stitch? That would be a trs, tunisian reverse stitch.

Yes, I did go through a back bar of the stitch. Almost like when you make your chain and go into the bottom of the chain and make a single crochet, which would make it look like a single crochet on the other side as well. I don't know if you know what I'm talking about but I am trying my best to explain it.

Robin,
That's a tunisian reverse (trs), the back side of tunisian will always look similar to the picture you posted. It may be "bumpier", like in the tunisian knit stitch, or nice and neat like yours.
You can use the reverse stitch, or the purl stitch, to help counteract the curl you would normally get with tunisian.
