Earrings
May 11, 2015 at 8:11:24 PM
I am trying to create a pair of earrings from a photo. Does anyone know what number of stitches would be good for this project? Also, what pixel size for the photo? I have tried 50x50 and 45x50
Here is my photo
Thanks
Renee

Renee,
Welcome!
Although this is a lovely image, you'll probably find you'll have great difficulty if you're trying to use the freePatternWizard to create a pattern for earrings specifically. The freePatternWizard is better suited to larger pieces. If you make an earring pattern too large, it will be too bulky for the ear and too heavy, as well.
If you're determined to use this particular image, I'd suggest using a plain blank grid in peyote or whatever stitch you're trying to use and overlaying it with a simple graphics program (there are at least two powerful programs available for free that will work for this very purpose). If you do this manually, then make a mirror image, you can likely get a better, more suitable graph than you will with the freePatternWizard. The purpose of the freePatternWizard is to make larger patterns. Although down the line this will likely change when we add more features, at this point what we have is geared more for much larger patterns.
Looking at your original, it doesn't look like it will take much to make a pattern using the overlay procedure I mentioned above.

Thank you very much for the information. Would you be able to tell me the names of the programs you mentioned and give some instructions how to do the overlay process?

Renee,
I can give you links...as for how to use the programs, you'd have to contact support for those programs, as I don't use either of them myself. What I use is a version of Paint Shop Pro that's so ancient, it has few bells and whistles, unlike these excellent programs! Whatever procedure I follow with my ancient PSP is likely completely different from current programs like these.
Gimp is very popular and powerful:

Another popular and powerful program, paint.net:

Either one of these is probably way better than my ancient PSP, a program for which I paid a lot of money back in the day!
