I'm Pepper and I live in southern IN. I have a stressful job and knitting relaxes me. Don't know what I'd do without it. Learned as a child and really didn't knit much until I was in my 40s. Now I knit all the time. I LOVE expensive yarns, just finished a cashmere shawl, but I always have a baby blanket or something going in acrylic too. I think I knit those faster, the nice fibers are fun to just touch, with the acrylic I knit more and pet the yarn less!

Welcome, Pepper!

Yarn can be so tactile. LOL, here's my guilty secret: I like to touch all of the yarns when I go to the LYS. Not necessarily to buy them, mind you, but just because it feels soooooooooo good.

If the stores charged for feeling the yarns, I'd be in some serious debt! Wink

I am the same way about touching yarn in a yarn store. I have to feel it. If I like it I have to feel it on my neck. It's so nice. I just finished a clapotis in a cashmere I found on sale. I showed it to my 25 year old son and he said he wanted an afghan out of that yarn. I had to tell him that I can't afford an afghan's worth of cashmere!

Argh, wouldn't that cost a king's ransom?!

I used to be acquainted with a woman who made custom-knitted garments for people. She had a small shop with shelves of yarn for future projects...she only bought the absolute best and everything had an interesting texture. It was the first time I'd ever felt soft, soft chenille...whispery soft like a fuzzy caterpillar. LOL, it was hard not to drool all over it! If memory serves, that chenille was about $20 for one very small skein. Ouch!
