Hi - i have used the pattern wizard to create a pattern and have got the word chart as well as the graph. If i choose to use the word graph, how should it be read - do I start each row on the right side (cutting yarn at the left end) or do I turn and then start the next row. Hope this makes sense - and grateful for any help

Welcome!
The wizard really doesn't know what kind of spacing you want. When you upload an image, it's assumed you want use the image as the graph itself.
There are a couple of ways you can remedy this. One is to create your image to cover the size needed only for the ends of the scarf. You can only go with the number of stitches across for now (we have a feature in development that will let you decide how long you want the image; at the moment, it does the math for you so your image is the correct aspect ratio). Then you can apply it to each end of the scarf as you go.
The other thing is to upload (if it's not beyond the maximum number of stitches allowed) an image that has the image on each end with a long enough space in between for the stitches you don't want as part of your image, the "blank" portion. In this (and pretty much any) case, you want to be sure to first reduce your image in a graphics program so it's the size across of the total number of pixels/stitches you want going across.

I will try to keep doing monthly updates at least. And I
have made some decent progress. Work has been stressful so getting
to sit, stitch and listen to audiobooks in the evenings has been a
much needed form of therapy.
Thanks for the
info on removing stains. I decided to start of simple, I soaked the
work in water that was laced with dish washing soap. It helped a
little. Definitely with the more obvious stains that were spills
from a drink. Little less with the finger grease. But to be fair, I
left it to soak overnight but didnt really move it around much to
encourage the grease to come loose. I think I will give it another
go soon.
I actually looked into Q-snaps
when I first started this project and decided that I didn't want to
use a hoop. They seemed nice but as they would have taken weeks to
ship then I was not going to wait for that. One question I still
had was that while they look more forgiving than hoops, what sort
of an effect does it have if you have to snap in an already
stitched area?
