New!  We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn!  If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you.  This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic!  (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)

New!  The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

Welcome to Stitchboard!  Feel free to sit and stay awhile.  Check out our new Premier features.  In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request!  We have many more features planned, too!  Laughing

Hi, Everyone,

Since we upgraded the site to a secure server (HTTPS:) back in April, some users have been experiencing periodic problems getting their pdf charts on the screen.

This problem shows up both in IOS and Android devices.

In testing I found that there's no single solution.  Some devices work no matter what (like my iPhone).  Other require you change the pdf format setting in section 7 of the freePatternWizard.

For those IOS device users having pdf viewing problems, I just re-enabled a "screen" option in section 7 that helps.

The problem is that there's no common solution to the pdf viewing problem.  Users with an iPad using a certain version of IOS and browser might have no problem.  Those with a slightly different version of browser on the same device might have a problem.  Some with a different IOS version with the same browser version might or might not have a problem.  Again, they come and go depending on the combination of device, operating system version, and broswer version.

SO, if you have a problem getting a pdf chart (like all you see is a bunch of garbage text on the screen or get a download failed message), try another setting in section 7.  There are currently 3 options — Download pattern, Show /pdf pattern on screen, and Email pattern to myself.  If you have a problem with one setting, try another.

Some versions of operating systems and browser versions are more sensitive to downloading pdf files from a secure server.

I'll eventually be adding a 4th option that should offer a universal fix but for now most users should find an option that works by trying the different pdf settings in section 7.

Hi All,

I'm going to start to turn on some new features.

Many users have asked for a "map" to show how the pdf chart pages fit together.

This update adds this function for Crochet, Cross Stitch, Knitting, and 3 Beading stitches.  I will enable brick, peyote, and right angle weave beading keys in a bit.  I want to do some more testing on these three.

So now when you create a chart that's more than a single page, the final pdf page will be a "Chart Page Key".  It shows your image in the background and a grid showing the pdf page numbers and how they go together.

For example:

It always adjusts the Page Key size to fit on one single page.

Each chart page has a page number in the upper right corner.  These page numbers correspond to those numbers shown on the last Page Key.  So no more guessing how everything fits together. Smile

More features coming soon!

Terry

Hi tandykins,

That issue with .jpgs was my first idea.  One question I do have is how you created the .gif and .png images.  By loading a .jpg and saving it as a .gif or .png still leaves in the "noise".

The first thing I do to look for a possible cause is to use a paint program and enlarge the image a lot.  Often you can see other colors in what should be black lines.  I've even seen black and white images with a lot of colors that show up when they're enlarged.

I'm willing to look at your original image (if you don't mind) and see if I can see a cause.  I could then also run it through the program and see what results I get.

If you don't mind sending me an image with which you're having problems, let me know and I'll send you an email.  You can then reply and attach your image.

I also have some testing to do for two other users.  I'll be finishing up two projects over the next few days and will be back to testing and updating.

So let me know if it's ok for me to look at your image with the program and I'll see what's causing this.

Terry

Line,

I understand.  Kiss  I'm not sure I could take them apart, either.  Though maybe if there's one you find particularly cute, you could repurpose it into a felted purse?

And I completely understand why you wouldn't want to give them to other kids, either.  Kiss

Hugs,
Melanie

I posted ten FREE soap making books for Kindle for today...grab them before they're gone!  (Note: you do not need to have an actual Kindle.  If you have a smartphone, you can download a Kindle reader app for FREE...if all you have is a PC, you can download to your PC...and I believe there may also be a way now of completely bypassing any kind of reader app to read directly online - though please don't quote me on that, as I'm not sure.  I find the PC reader to be quite decent for pattern content...since I don't own a Kindle, I can't say how well it works...but I would think a smaller screen would make patterns kind of difficult to read.)
