New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! We have many more features planned, too!

Hi Everyone,
I just fixed a bug where changing stitch type (i.e. from Crochet to Beading) would lose the pdf setting in Section 7 where you set Colors Only, Symbols Only, or Both Colors and Symbols.
Anytime you changed the stitch type it used to revert back to Colors Only regardless of a previous setting.
It now keeps your desired setting.
More bug fixes coming!
Terry

Is it possible to use the program to make a scarf approx 32 stitches across and 200 rows long?
Hi my name Wanda and I live in Isabela, Puerto Rico. I love to crochet and now I'm learning to do graphgans. It's been a slow process but the group I'm in is very helpful. Hopefully I can get some input on how to do graphs here in crochet.
Christine,
Welcome!

The freePatternWizard creates a crochet pattern in symbols or words (or both). I'm not sure if the problem you're having is that you can't find where to set it to words or something else, so I'll answer your question on that basis.
In the freePatternWizard, first of all, make sure you've provided your image, selected crochet in #2 and in #3 select your stitch type (for regular crochet with single crochets, that would be "standard").
In #5, my suggestion is to choose the "Stitchboard Basic Palette." If you choose the "Stitchboard Full Palette," there are about a gazillion colors, and you won't be able to match them to shades of yarn. The "basic" palette includes about 3 of each of the basic colors (light, medium and dark) and a few incidental colors not included in that. Yarn manufacturers don't generally provide a lot of options color-wise, because they don't want to get stuck with hundreds of colors that might sell only a skein or two per month, so the "basic" palette was created with that in mind.
In #7, make sure you're logged in and then the default of "Pattern in PDF format" should already be chosen for you. You can then make sure the choice to the right of that says "Symbols only." Then to the right of PDF Paper Size is the critical choice: "Pattern or Word Chart," and your choice would be "Pattern and Word Chart" so you would get both the graph and the chart written out in words.
Hope that helps!
