New! The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
New! We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn! If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you. This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic! (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)
New! The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!
Welcome to Stitchboard! Feel free to sit and stay awhile. Check out our new Premier features. In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request! Shaleigh,
You've made some
amazing progress! You should be very proud!
Audiobooks are
great for stitching...and very smart. LOL, I watch TV sometimes,
but it gets really distracting when having to look away from the
work all the time.
I don't see anything that
looks really bad, but then stains have a way of showing WAY better
in person than in a picture, sigh. Also, my guess is your stitching
will cover all but the very edges of the fabric, and if so you
might be able to frame it in such a way to keep the edges from
showing.
Q-Snaps: I had no problem at all
with them covering already-stitched areas; at least it all looked
fine to me after. And it seemed to be even better than working with
a frame. I once used a rolling frame of some kind for a specific
piece, where the excess fabric was rolled up and out of the way.
Unfortunately, the fabric was just too coarse and loosely woven for
working without a frame or hoop or some support. That was before I
knew of Q-Snaps and honestly, I wished I'd known about them at the
time because that frame kept unrolling the fabric where it wasn't
taut, and it was SO hard to deal with. With Q-Snaps, a slight
adjustment of the brackets and it's perfect.
Also, the frame didn't prevent handling the excess
fabric. It was wood on the sides and had a roller at the top where
the fabric was held, IIRC. (That frame went somewhere unknown after
that project, and honestly, I don't really care where because it
was so awful, LOL. )
Other than
Q-Snaps, it seems most methods don't prevent handling of fabric.
Q-Snaps don't entirely do that, either...but it seems to me that
there's a lot less handling because the brackets that hold the
fabric on have so much coverage. Because that's what I hold onto,
not the fabric itself. Which doesn't necessarily mean not touching
the fabric at all, because that's not really possible, but just
seems like it's less possible to do that.
Maybe a frame would work better for you, though? One
thing, whatever works for one person doesn't necessarily work for
another. And there are so many different types
of frames...I even saw a frame once that you sort of...sit on
(obviously, it had an extension to hold the fabric, LOL)! Not sure
how comfortable that would be, but the woman using it seemed to
like it.
I hope you find
something that works very, very well! And keep up the great work
because it looks absolutely AMAZING!
Thanks for the response Melanie .
I know what you mean, my 14ct cloth was Zweigart and it
felt really nice.
I was hoping to avoid
having to buy a new cloth, as I am both so excited to get started
and also it is such a hassle to shop during lockdown. I thought it
would likely be a few days before it would either be delivered or I
could go to pick it up.
But if it is the
best solution... It's such a big piece I want it to look as good a
possible.
Black background sounds pretty, but my
eyesight is actually already a bit.. well... crap. I really like
the idea of pale blue though. I will have to pick it up for a
future project once lockdown is lifted and I can shop like
normal.
I found a solution though. Some
googling told me that the one obvious answer might be to just go
for Aida 16 then. Smaller picture, but that I don't mind much. And
2 threads means I can still use the loop method for starting a
thread, which will come in handy in those spots the colours change
a lot.
In most guides I
found:
Aida 14 - 2-3 threads
Aida 14 - 2-3 threads
Aida
16 - 2 threads
Aida 18 - 1-2
threads.
Based on this 16 seems like a safe
bet.
I phoned through half of Tallinn (capital of Estonia) to
try to find a place that would have Aida 16 bigger than precut
15inch / 39cm ones. There was a wholesaler, but they sold
minimum 5m (15ft) at a time. They had one that was almost 4m (12ft)
that they could have sold me but thats still... so much fabric and
I have already spent a fair bit on this project. After I was ready
to give up, I phoned the wholesaler one more time and asked that if
they already have this cut up piece.. maybe they could cut one more
piece off of it and sell me 1m (3ft). And the lady said that "You
know... why not. If you are willing to drive over then yes, I will
get you that piece". So off I went, bought a big chocolate as an
additional thank you and I got my cloth! Wholesale price and
everything.
So this is now me, at the
beginning of my project.
Datadromeda,
Welcome!
No worries...as
long as the original materials are your own copyright, you're free
