Melanie

You are very welcome... Smiley
They should however, keep the hard training and exercice to a minimum in warm weather.. In the summer months they should only excercise and train their husky early in the morning, and late at night. It will be too hot during the day for the dog to excercise because of their wool and it can overheat and dehydrate the poor fellow..

We are lucky here in Denmark, because the weather in the early morning (we are talking 5-6am) is very cold, så we have no problem what so ever in training our dog all year around..
But it is difficult for those who live in countries which are very very warm 24hours a day in the summer period.. I know a lot of husky owners around the globe an a lot of them complain about the hot weather when they need to do some training with their dogs :p

Line,

Oooh, that's a very good point!  Of course our summers are much too hot and humid for heavy, intensive training.

I'm so glad you can train your dog year round!  Kiss  Huskies are obviously much better suited to your climate than to ours.

It's funny...I remember one time years ago I'd found a dog wandering around the city where I lived.  This was a gorgeous husky...not sure if this dog was male or female.  Anyway, the dog was hanging around in the hot, hot weather and was sooooo sweet...obviously the poor critter didn't want to move, it was so hot out!  I did contact animal control, who took him/her away.  I hope s/he was reunited with his/her humans or found a good home.  Sadly, a few months after I found the poor dog, one of my friends said he would have taken him/her in if no one had claimed the dog, and I know that would have been such a great home.  Cry  But I didn't know my friend yet.

My feeling is on this current situation that my friends were terribly misinformed.  Cry  I wouldn't be surprised to discover someone told them it would be easy to care for a husky.  Cry

Hopefully with your advice the situation can be dealt with properly.  Kiss

Melanie,

I realy hope that my advice can help them, and that they will want to follow if not all then just some of it.
I am sure that they will become fantastic Huksy owners once they know what kind of dog they have between their hands..

We have actually talked about getting a new dog when we have moved.. And even I am in doubt if the next dog should be another Husky.. We have talked about the getting a Poodle as dog number 2 because the Husky is just a huge piece of work and I am not sure if I am up to the task again.. o.O'

Line,

Thank you, hon...I hope your advice can make them aware of the work they need to do so this gorgeous creature will feel happy and cherished.  Kiss  They're very nice people and I think they can do well, once they know what they've gotten themselves into.  Kiss

I can completely understand why you'd prefer to get a lower maintenance dog once you've moved.  Moving, even the easiest, most stress-free move, is still stressful, so it's smart of you to plan to relax and enjoy yourselves after...and bringing in any kind of loving, furry friend should be a joy!  Kiss

Line,

Thank you so much, hon...I'll let you know how it goes with them.  Kiss  They live nearby, though we don't see them often, as they're off in a different direction than we usually travel!  And when we do stop by, they're frequently not home, sigh.  But I'm guessing we'll at least bump into them in the next week or two...hopefully!  Kiss

I'll also get an email address for them so they can consult the forum...it sounds like that's going to be extremely helpful for them, too.  Kiss  It's just amazing how someone can sell a dog to just anyone, not knowing if they'll be a good match.  Even if it was an adoption, it's still quite nasty to not talk about the temperament this dog would have and how best to train him!

I bet there are other husky owners in this area, and how lovely if the forum could get them together!  Kiss

Thank you again!  Kiss

Melanie,

Again - you are very welcome..
It would be great if they could get to know other people who have huskies..
I know that a lot of the people on this forum is very close, and they have several meet-ups around the country when the weather allows it.. Smiley
They even arrange camping trips sometimes.. It's great...

Line,

I agree...it would be lovely for them to get to know other people with huskies...and I'm sure they'll appreciate the ability to ask advice in person and to get help with something that may be a difficult problem.  Kiss

It would be the way I feel about meeting up with other crocheters!  Kiss

Camping trips...have you gone on any?  Or to meet-ups?  It sounds so exciting!  Kiss

Melanie,

Unfortunately I haven't.. :/
The meet ups are in the US and in UK, it's way to far for me to travel "just for that"..
I know most of the husky owners in Denmark, and a lot of them are not people I whish to spend my time with..

Line,

I understand, but how sad you can't have the company of other husky owners that are nice!  Cry  Wish there were a lot of nice ones in your area.  Sigh, but isn't that always the way?

Good luck, hon...I know you can do it!  Kiss

Melanie...

Pheeew... Just came out from my exam... Kind of nailed it.. Got a B... That's okay for me..
My teacher was really hard on me, and asked me a lot of questions that threw me out on a side track...

Now the psychology part is over, and I have to wait for our 2 writing exams in english and danish... Smiley
