Better say hello

Opps I posted in Q&A before I introduced myself.
Nevermind I will fix that now.

Hello beaders,

I'm Scarlet, 32 and from Lincolnshire, UK.
Mostly I am a lampworker (my full time job) but just over a year ago my local bead group set themselves a challenge, to teach me to beadweave. I had tried it years ago, but it was one of those things that got thrown across the room in a bit of a rage because all I had was a messy knot of beads and thread.

Apparently the ladies in my group though were very good teachers. They taught me flat peyote, then tubular herringbone, they taught me how to bezel a cab - theyve taught me a lot, in return I have been teaching newer members to the group too (it's all wonderful there.)

I've ended up here because I needed to make a peyote pattern from a photo of my kids (DS 7 and DD 2 months) it's a bit of a huge project but it's one that I will be working on a little each week until the end of the year. The pattern has come out great and I'm just starting to source the beads I will need so I can get started.

As well as my children I am mummy to two furbabies (cats) and married to a wonderfully supportive husband (beading the kids was actually his idea, I was going to go for a much more simple birth sampler)

I've also got a few other projects on the go. Still learning loads.

Welcome, Scarlet!  Smile

I'd love to hear about your lampwork...that sounds so cool!  Smile

What a fascinating journey you've had, to go from not doing any beadweaving at all to doing beadweaving!  Smile  (LOL, it's so addictive, isn't it?!)

I'm so happy to hear you've found the Free Pattern Wizard useful, and we'd love to see what you make.  Smile  What a lovely idea your husband had - so unique compared to a traditional birth sampler!

IMO, the best part about beading is there's always something new to learn.  Smile  I've been beading since around 2000, maybe earlier, and I'm still learning.

I hope the kitties are helpful with your beading endeavors...I know ours is!  Wink  She likes to lay across my bead organizer or bead tray and sometimes will try to take the beads out of the little jars in the organizer.  Of course, I can't let her do the actual beading, as all she knows is biting beadwork.  But she helps!  Kiss

What other beady delights are you working on at the moment?  Smile

Lampwork is very cool (or rather very hot!) I started back in 2008 with it after lusting over my American friends beads long enough. I had no idea it even existed in the UK but at a bead show I met the UK supplier for everything lampwork and it sort of got a bit out of hand from there. I now have a dedicated studio, I'm chairman of Glass Beadmakers UK and I have had the pleasure of being taught new techniques by some of the greats from around the world.

I mostly make focal beads (which is something that comes in very handy at my bead group, they like that they can order a focal to match the seed beads rather than hunting for the beads to match the focal.)

I'm posting updates on my blog about the picture I'm in the process of writing about the pattern and the start of the project which will be posted when I have some of the pattern made up.

(my blog is on my website so apologies in advance if you get distracted by beads.)

One of my cats is too old to care what is going on unless food is involved but the yonger one (currently occypying my lap, with the laptop) likes to sit in my bead box. He also likes to sit next to me in the studio, we had to make him somewhere to sit so he didn't get to close to the flame and manyh a time he has decided that on top of my beads is a good place, no matter how many times I have to move him to get another pot of beads out the box.

At the moment I am also trying a project from a magazine on beaded chainmail but with sorting this photo out taking over I haven't got much further than making a few rings.

Scarlet,

LOL, I'll say lampwork is very hot!  Laughing

That's wonderful how you've gotten into the lampwork business and are so prolific!  Kiss  I bet your bead group loves how they can now get a focal to match their seed beads!  It's very frustrating to have to match the other way around, e.g., seed beads to focal, instead of focal to seed beads.

Um, yeah, LOL, that warning didn't do much good, because I'm loving your focal beads!  Kiss  That pink & ivory lentil focal bead in particular is making me drool all over the keyboard.  Wink

Hee hee, sounds just like a kitty!  Laughing  Find a spot for yourself, especially on top of whatever your human is doing, and relax.  Laughing  Know that one well.  Kiss  If you don't want them there, that is where they will settle.

Ooh, beaded chainmail sounds really nice!  Kiss  Please post a picture or three if you have any!  Smile

no pictures yet it's just a load of beads tied into rings at the moment so not very interesting.

Scarlet,

Can't wait to see when you have photos, then!  Kiss  Though I doubt it's at all uninteresting...I personally could never find beads uninteresting, even if they're just tied into rings.  Smile
