Oh, and yes we do get the hot & humid weather, but I think it get's a little worse in the southern parts, near the gulf coast.
We are getting a break right now with highs in the 80's for a few days, then the forecast has us back in the 90's
.
I can't wait for the open window weather
.

Sherry,
I haven't tried converting knit to Tunisian, though have toyed with the idea many times...the one thing that I find kind of intimidating, truthfully, is that I don't know how the gauge would work.
Dumb question: do you find the gauge for Tunisian is higher than it is wide, or wider than it is high? There has been some question about that lately. Unfortunately, I haven't done Tunisian crochet in a while; I lost most (if not all) of my Tunisian hooks in a flood and have yet to replace most of what I lost.
So that's why I've been ill-prepared to try it myself, and when trying to get it right for the Free Pattern Wizard, I had
thought
it was similar to knitting, but now am not so sure.
Would you want to try working on a pattern conversion together, perhaps with a free pattern from online? I can look through the things that made it through the flood and see if I have a Tunisian hook...I've been meaning to do that, anyway.
You should be able to see the new Tunisian area as I type this, so if you'd like to respond there, feel free!
Great suggestion...thanks!

Sherry,
I'm glad you don't get the worst of the hot, humid weather. I definitely feel for my poor friend, especially considering some of her work involves going outside, and I've been hearing the intense heat has caused some health issues.
Nothing severe, but still...heat is heat and there's just no way to avoid it.
I'm sorry to hear the heat is returning...ugh!
I've heard ours is also slated to return and hope that assessment is
wrong. Bleah, I want to get back to my yarns!
Open window weather is the
best
! I especially love the idea of using no heat or air conditioning. Right in the middle is ideal!

Melanie,
Where are you located, if you don't mind? I've noticed that some parts of the country are getting higher than normal temps this year, which I think is a concern for the simple fact that if you're not used to it, it's a bigger health hazard.
Staying hydrated is key, if people wait til they feel thirsty, they are already dehydrated.
Going to find tunisian board now

Sherry,
Currently located in the Midwest. I know of the higher than normal temps that you're talking about, though that was last year for us, not this year.
Ugh, I'd never seen so many days in a row with consistently high temperatures and terrible drought. The drought was actually the better part for us, considering we sometimes have a tendency to flood, so being without rain for a very long time was kind of nice...but definitely not that heat! You're
so
right about it being a health hazard when you're not used to it.
My husband once decided to trim our hedges on a day that wasn't terribly hot, and he said he started feeling odd. He had the beginnings of heat stroke. He didn't go to the emergency room, but he took it easy and was okay again in a few hours. Scary, though!

Melanie,
I lived in Iowa (QC area) for a few years, the winters were horrible. Then in spring the floods would come.
My son and DIL are still there and I went back to visit in May/June, flying over the land and seeing the fields still flooded was very sad. It was cold and rainy almost the entire 2 weeks.
However we visited several of the local big box craft stores and I saw a much larger selection of knit and crochet tools and accessories.
My family thinks I'm "overly aware" of what can happen (probably true) and we've had a couple of scares related to the heat.

Sherry,
Iowa gets some
terrible
weather!
That's very sad how the fields were still flooded. And it's not going to get any better with the climate change that keeps happening. Any kind of bad weather is so sad. I can't bear to look at the pictures of flooding or anything else. It's so upsetting.
Some of the big box craft stores are starting to supply more things than they used to have. I was pleased to see a lot of different sized double pointed knitting needle sets at JoAnn's today...it used to be that they'd have only a set of metal sock knitters, with about 3 or 4 sizes of thinner needles, and that was it. One time a cashier there referred a customer to me, because she was looking for a certain size of double pointed or circular needles, and of course, JoAnn's didn't stock them. Back then the LYS was still in business, so I referred her to there.
I was disappointed, though, that despite stocking so many double pointed needles, JoAnn's didn't have a
single
Tunisian hook.
I had to go to Michael's for that. They had
one
...size H.
I don't think you're overly aware...not at
all
. That heat is nothing to mess around with. It's very scary and people have died of heat stroke, so it's something that must be taken seriously, IMO. If you don't take it seriously, it can catch you totally unaware...that's what happened with my husband when he was outside trimming the hedges the one day. He suddenly noticed he'd stopped sweating, and when he started feeling really odd, he stopped what he was doing and spent the rest of the afternoon taking it easy, drinking water and resting. It could have been a
lot
worse...good thing he noticed something was wrong when he did, rather than continue working!
