Neave,
I completely agree. I see people who work their buns off, yet barely make any money. I contrast that with another store that's practically next door to Walmart here. That store is employee owned, so they get something more than a paycheck. They don't work for minimum wage and the atmosphere is completely different. Even when they're busy, the employees are relaxed and happy...and they work hard, too. But the Walmart ones put in just as much effort, and get just about nothing in return.
I remember a time many years ago when I was really into cross stitching. Someone told me it was possible to get cross stitch kits as demos for free from Walmart, as long as you would make the item and bring it in - in a timely fashion, though. Nobody would get paid for that kind of work, but getting a free pattern and making it was its own reward.
I called and they said they didn't have outside stitchers making pieces; if they wanted some of those kits done for demos, they figured they could send the patterns home with employees. I then realized I'd better shut up before the employees in the craft section were forced to do the work for nothing, not as much as their (pittance) regular hourly pay!
I don't think the employees were given the kits, but for a while I was sweating that one out, feeling terribly guilty.

Neave,
It really is wrong, and what's more, it's not like they can't afford it. They keep making record profits, but the only place that goes is right to the top. The employees get nothing and nothing, a crap salary and no bonuses. You would think people at the top with money would try to treat employees well, but I'm sure the employees are nothing more than chattel to them.
I'd better be quiet before I start getting really wound up.

Neave,
You said it!
What's more, as the people at the top get more money, it never satisfies them. They can have gold-plated toilets in every bathroom on their multimillion dollar yachts, and that's
still
not enough. So they never learn to share, never learn to understand what their employees go through, and things simply get worse for the workers.

i know melanie i'm an ex army nurse and civilian nurse and us nurses get some shit and we never get a thank you either for the work we do it makes my blood boil when ordinary workers get so little pay and the top people are earning mega amounts and they don't have the decency to take a pay cut or refuse their bonuses

Neave,
Ugh, it's the same here...nurses are so underpaid for all of the work they do.
It's shameful that those in charge think nothing of helping themselves to ever more money, while everyone else toils for almost nothing.

Neave,
So very true.
You would think people would want to help others, but instead the people who could do the most good learn how much "better" than everyone else they are. And that leads to the situation as it is today. So unnecessary.

Neave,
Wish it was an easy thing to educate them, as it would make life better for everyone, not just the very few.

Neave,
Absolutely.
It's so disparaging. There's no such thing as doing something for the greater good by those who are "haves" as opposed to "have nots." It's all about whatever they want and then find excuses for why it's okay.
