I am new to this site, but i am liking it. It could just be an operator error.

Ive had a hard time finding something to cross stitch with Coheed and Cambria (A band). So i decided to come up with something on my own. Ive tried to adjust a couple differnet settings in the maker, but it comes out wrong basically lol. I figure i could probably just figure out the missing pieces and figure out how to write the words, but hopefully someone can help!

The one picture is what im wanting it to look like. THe other is what i get.

Welcome!

What a cool design!

The first thought that occurred to me is the font is too thin to do more than blob up, as you can see. What the freePatternWizard isn't (at the moment) is an editor. It looks at anything made of basic thin lines and doesn't really know what to do with it.

The font here is actually more suitable to backstitch, which we don't offer at this time, though it's in our plans.

The next thing is about your image. What file format is it in? If it's in jpg, the format will have shades of other colors in it and extraneous characters you can't really see just by looking at it. This will confuse the freePatternWizard, which will take the colors it sees and "report" them as those other colors, as in different shades of red in this case.

The best formats to use are gif and png, because those don't introduce extraneous colors. But you can't go from a saved jpg to a gif, because the colors are already there in the file.

Next, are you sending an image that is pixel-to-stitch, e.g., 50 pixels across = 50 stitches across? Since the freePatternWizard isn't an actual editor, if you don't send it an image like that first, it will do its best as it tries to expand or contract the image, but the results won't be great.

Finally, you also need to pay attention to thin lines here, too. If your image is set (for example) for 50 pixels as opposed to 200, a thinner line or smaller dot may disappear, being too thin or small for the freePatternWizard.

The good news is that it's not at all impossible to work with such an image; mostly, you need to be mindful of what's going on with the various things mentioned above for a good result.

Thanks for getting back to me!

I will try to make the lines thicker and see if it comes up with something. I just havent cross stitched in like 10 years, so im trying to get back into. Ive done lettering before i think i can handle it if i cant get it to map something out.

The picture was saved as PNG, so im not sure. And honestly i am unsure with pixel to stitch part lol. Thats all confusing to me. I just left it at 80? So im not sure about that part.

Im going to mess with it more to see if i can get a better result. If i cant i think the picture it did give me is able to be followed enough i can fill in the blank.

You're so welcome!

Actually, if you'd want to just hand chart the font as backstitch, it shouldn't be too difficult. I've done that long before computers were available for such tasks and with a simple font like the one you've used above, it should be easy peasy!

And I'm sure it will look outstanding!

PNG is good! As for accepting the default of 80, that may be part of the problem. If your image is 80 pixels across, you're fine, but if it's 50 or 100, then the freePatternWizard likely won't understand and will do the best it can. If you're on a PC, you can look at your original image in a folder, then put the mouse over the image in the folder and it should pop up information such as filename, file type, size - and it will also say (for example) "Dimensions: 50 x 60" or whatver size your image is.

Thank you for the information! I see what you mean about the dimensions. I see its a lot bigger than 80 so that might be the issue its having then.
