I discovered cross stitching and I can not get enough!

Hi everyone!
In June 2019, my grandma gave me a plastic canvas/half cross stitching/needlepoint kit. I was so happy with the result that I bought a cross stitch kit, which I loved even more. Now, almost a year later I am still stitching, with a sickening amount of patterns that are waiting to be stitched. I have a sort of addiction to buying patterns, but the ones I have started are looking good so far. I am so lucky to have cross stitch, especially during this time. Imagine all of the people who have nothing better to do and just sit on their phones all day! At least we get to create beautiful things. I started sewing when I was seven and have always loved to stitch, coming from a long line of tailors. I found Stitchboard, and I am very happy because I was looking for a good photo conversion software--and this is free! I still do plastic canvas/needlepoint, but cross stitching is my favorite. I also do a little knitting and crochet. I very much dislike, howver, when people call my cross stitching "crochet".  Does that bother anyone else?
Anyhow, cross stitching is a great way to spend time. People often ask me how I did it, and they refuse to believe me on how simple it is. I made every possible mistake, however. I started at the very corner, not the center, I used all six strands of floss, and, until recently, my stitches were not in the same direction. Read instructions and watch videos first! Besides these painful regrets, cross stitching has enhanced my life and my mood. I am happy to be a part of the stitchboard community: I was looking for good cross-stitch forums and a place to sell my patterns! Smile

Secoya,
How wonderful that your grandma got you started with cross stitching! Kiss
Buying patterns? What patterns? (Hiding patterns in remote places, like way back in the fridge where no one ever looks or at the very bottom of a drawer, under all of the clothes. Laughing)
Isn't it wonderful to have stitching for when we're supposed to be staying home? Kiss While it can be a lot of fun to read things online, it can get dull after a while.
So happy you found us! Kiss
I think I've made all of the same mistakes you did when you were first learning...and more. Embarassed But once you get the hang of it, then it becomes second nature. Kiss
Sage advice to read instructions! Most people don't like to...and that's where the trouble starts...

Haha yes! I have three overflowing folders of them that weigh around five pounds each. I promise you that I am not exaggerating! I agree that it is hard at first but soon come naturally. My best cross-stitch friend, who I introduced to cross stitch, figured it out before I did-just by reading instructions! Thank you for your kind post.

Secoya,
LOL, I know you're not exaggerating, because I suffer from the same addiction disease! Laughing
Your friend is apparently a genius! Ha, I think of all of the problems I could have avoided...and didn't...because I didn't read the instructions first. Frown
