Issues With First Graph
January 20, 2017 at 9:42:22 PM

Hi there,

I am trying to create my first graph for crochet.

I have read many of the posts on here regarding images etc.  I have tried resizing the image and making sure it's .png.

I am having issues with the image looking blurry and leaving shadows on the graph, so it is adding colours that are not there.

Thanks in advance.

ksmith,

Welcome!  Smile

A couple of questions come to mind.  When resizing the image, are you using a graphics program?  And are you taking a jpg image and making it into a png, or are you working initially with an actual png?

There are other possibilities...those aren't the only ones, so we'll try to figure out what's going on here.  Smile

ksmith,

I've done tons of graphs, some I've had to edit in another program first. I'm thinking that the most likely thing is that the software is picking up pixels that you can't see with the naked eye.
Try putting your image into a photo editing program (I use GIMP), and magnifying it so that you can see those pixels and edit the colors a bit.

Another trick that will sometimes work, is to choose a yarn and then select I will choose my colors, then when the pallette appears check only the colors you want.

Sometimes it will take a bit of work to get your graph just the way you want, and you may have to run it through several times.

Hope this helps

Sherry

I was just using paint to resize and yes it is originally a png.  I will try GIMP and see how that goes.

Thanks.

Kellie,

I'll have Terry (Support) take a look at this and see if he has other ideas.  Paint should be fine as a graphics program, though GIMP would be more sophisticated and have more options.

Hi, Kellie.

I'm just finishing up testing a complete re-write of the graphics engine that does all the work.  This will eliminate several issues and make cleaner charts.

In the meantime, I'm trying to address any existing problems people are having now instead of making them wait for the next version.

So, could you please let me know if your image is:
  • black and white
  • an image with colors but no black
  • an image with colors but no white

There are certain cases where an extra color is introduced in these cases and I can address it for now if I know this is what's causing your problem.

Also, if you want, I'd be happy to test it if you want to email a copy of your image.  If you want to do this, let me know and I'll send you an email to which you can reply and attach your image.  This would really help me see if it's a bug in the software.  And if it is a bug and I can reproduce it, I can fix it.

Terry
