I'm a new member needing help!

For starters, thank you for this amazing "go-to" program!! Unfortunately my brain is officially overloaded and at full capacity of what I am able to comprehend this evening. I am trying to make a graphgan that will end up being approximately 45" (w) X 72"(long). (Doesn't have to be exact...just close)
My previous afghan was a bit longer due to my hook (I was using a [J] crochet hook) and I started with a chain of events 198. Looks like I will be upgrading...my attempt at creating my first chart I noticed I could only use it 150 stitches and then it told me my height.

Is there any way that instead of asking for the number of stitches of the width, we could tell the wizard our desired finished size in width and length and what stitch we wanted to use? Then from there the wizzard could determine the number of stitches and rows we need?

Gosh, if y'all could do that, that would be AMAZING!
either way I'm happy to have found this site!
Thank you in advanced for your response!

Welcome!  Smile

Thank you so much for your kind words about our program!  Kiss

We do plan to offer the ability to adjust both width (stitches) and length (rows); however, it's not available at this time.  Originally, we started with width (stitches) only because our concern was people would tend to skew their patterns by trying to make them too short or long.  Now we're discovering people would like to set both length and width, so we're working on making that available.  While I can't offer a time frame, there's an inelegant solution for now...if you use a graphics program and mess with adding borders to your image, you can get it close to where you want it.  Of course, since this isn't an optimal solution, we're working to get those adjustments available, but in the meantime, this is a way you may be able to get close enough to the measurements you want.  Smile

If you're using Windows and you don't have a graphics program available, there are two very powerful free programs, and I'd be very happy to give you links to download them, if you'd like.  I can't tell you how to use them, though...I'm embarrassed to report that I use a version of Paint Shop Pro that's so old...it's from...1998!  Embarassed  LOL.

Lol, that's fine! Thank you for the quick response to! I "THINK" I can figure this out ... at least I am going to give it a shot anyways, in the meantime I will continue to play around with this program and see what I can learn! This website is A God-send to me...you just don't understand:). Thank you again and
Have a great day!!

I am so sorry to bother you again, but in read a few other "help pleas" on here I noticed that the pattern creator only allows for using the SINGLE CROCHET stitch . Has anyone ever tried using the extended single crochet stitch on their patterns?
For example I created a pattern with the word "love" in cursive writing for an afghan.
I was wondering if you knew (before I spent a lot of time on this lol) if by using the extended SC st....would the word "love" still look normal? I just really want it wider than the program allows without having to figure in a border.
Thanks again!

No worries, you're not a bother...thanks for asking, because any questions you have, others undoubtedly also have!

We don't currently support stitches other than single crochet, Tunisian and filet crochet.  We'll be adding others, but at this time we don't have extended single crochet.

I would say extended single crochet would be very likely to elongate your stitches to the point where they would skew your pattern.  You could try this with a single letter, make one swatch with the letter in sc, then make another swatch with the same letter in extended sc.  You should choose a letter that would show clearly what effect the extended single crochet stitch would have on it.  A letter "I," for instance, probably would look fairly normal, perhaps just a tiny bit longer, so that one wouldn't give conclusive results.

We'll definitely be adding more stitches in the future...I'll suggest we place a higher priority on that, which is what we do with our more popular requested features.  With over 100 features planned, it's going to take some time, so we try to prioritize what people are requesting.  Smile
