Looking for a headband pattern
December 12, 2009 at 1:01:31 PM

Does anyone know of a nice headband pattern, preferably in a chunky yarn?  (Worsted weight would be fine, too.)  I had something with cables in mind, though that's not absolutely necessary.

Thanks!  Smiley

I would love to help.  I'll take a look around.  Perhaps there's one out there.

Charlene,

Thanks!  I've probably seen some, but they obviously didn't stick in my mind.

Are you part of ravelry? If so look at the 86-10 headband in Alaska. I have made it several times and I really like it. No cables but it gradually increases and then decreases in width.

Pepper,

Thank you so much!  I'll check it out.  It sounds intriguing...I'm definitely not married to the cables!  Smiley

Are you looking for a "headband" pattern only - or did you want something maybe a bit bigger to wear outside as and "ear warmer" type of thing.

As a straight forward knit headband pattern I like the following sites - free patterns...
http://knitting.about.com/od/knittingpatterns/p/cabled_headband.htm
and
http://community.livejournal.com/craftgrrl/9328990.html
Both are cables, which I love, but look easy to work up and use.

I don't personally wear headbands as a fashion accesscory - but I do like to use the larger ones as earwarmers in the winter since I pull my hair back in a low ponytail and it's hard to get hats to go over that.  So, if you're interested in something more like an earwarmer I like the following...
http://www.straw.com/cpy/patterns/scarves/meringue-earwarmer.html
or
http://www.kidsknits.com/free/woven_headband.htm
, or
http://www.mcuniverse.com/Panta-Headband.786.0.html
I made this last pattern the Panta - it works up pretty easily and you can customize for the size of your head.  Pattern was originally in a blog, but the above link has pics.

Plus - here is a great website that has a ton of links to free patterns.  You can find almost anything you're interested in...
http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/hair_accessories.php
is the one for the hair accessories...

but the link for the main page to get just about anything is:
http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/index.php
Love this site...

Just in case you know of any, I'm searching for a hooded scarf pattern for a midgauge or bulky machine.  Know of any?

Thanks
Charlene

Thanks dlowe for the links...they're incredible!  I do like the one from about.com...and the one from kidsknits appeals, too!  Smiley

I want it to use this as an earwarmer, mostly...LOL, but also to keep my hair out of my eyes while clearing out snow.  I've tried to put it up in a ponytail, but those renegade hairs keep escaping and getting in my eyes, making it hard to see while working.  (I'd also be wearing the same headband indoors for warmth.)  I currently have a kind of crappy store-bought polar fleece headband, but there's a seam on it that irritates my ear...apparently it has a bit of a "princess and the pea" thing going on, LOL.  Grin

Would you be able to convert a hand knitting pattern?  I don't know of any machine knitting ones, but have seen some for hand knitting.  Smiley
