symbols on all patterns
February 8, 2016 at 9:01:50 PM

HI,
Love the pattern wizzard! Is there any way to display the symbols when showing the pattern on the screen for cross stitch.  I prefer to use this instead of printing out the pages but it's hard to make our colors when they are close to the same shade.
Thanks!

Sandy,

Welcome!  Smile  So happy to hear you like the freePatternWizard.  Smile

I'm sorry to say that the only option for the pattern on-screen is in color.  You would have to use the PDF output for symbols.  I know it can be a bit much to print out all of the pages...though we've been talking about future options to resize PDF pages.  Smile

If you'd like to post photos of your work sometime (whether or not it was created with the freePatternWizard), please feel free, so we can all drool!  Wink

Sandy,

If you output to pdf to get the symbols, you could then just open the pdf on your computer instead of actually printing it on paper.

I do this often so I can zoom in to the area I want to work as I only have sight in one eye and this makes things much easier.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your quick response.  Is there any plans to add it?  I really like the symbols but like to look at bigger sections at once.

Sandy,

At this point, we don't have any plans, and here's why.  Putting symbols on the screen means the boxes have to be made way bigger for those symbols to be readable.  Doing this also would confuse many operating systems, where they would not only be unable to read them, many of those systems would also be unable to display them in a way that you could read them...e.g., the rows and/or columns would be off kilter.

If a way can be found to produce the patterns on screen with symbols, we'll gladly make them available, but at this time, it's not possible, I'm sorry to say.

That's understandable.  Second questions, Would I be able to alter the size of the output to PDF?  I notice that when I select to print to PDF is only shows me a grid of 50 by 70 points and there is about half a page still blank on the sheet of paper.
How Can I change that to 100 by 140 for example?

Sandy,

If you'd be willing to test for us, we'd like to try offering other printing options.  However, please keep in mind that while 50 x 70 leaves a lot of space, 100 x 140 may make the boxes so small, you won't be able to read them at all.  We can make them extremely tiny...but that would be counterproductive if you can't read the symbols.

Please let me know if you'd like to test for us.

I'd love to test.  I think allowing people to decide what they are comfortable with is a good idea.

Melanie,

While I generally create my own patterns, I would be happy to help out with testing things on an as needed basis.  Just let me know what / when / where. etc.

Would love to help in any way I can.
