Neave,

Thank you so much for all of those helpful links!  Kiss  It's so wonderful that you found someone who makes videos that are easy to follow.  Many people are very visual with learning, so good teaching videos are a must!

Oooh, love the Halloween items!  Kiss

Neave,

As I learned many years ago, a good instructor will make any subject inspiring; a bad one will make it dry and dull.  This is especially true in the art/crafting field.  I've seen many good videos, some bad videos.

You know, I was thinking maybe you should make a tutorial video!  Kiss  You're so knowledgeable and so prolific in the area of the band looms, I'm sure you'd have a lot of extra hints and tips to share!  Kiss

that's one thing i would never do is a tutorial i'm not confident in front of the camera i don't even like a video camera being pointed in my direction and i'd be so uncomfortable doing a tutorial and also i'd need kate's permission to use her techniques in any tutorials i'm not a confident person though i don't like being videoed or photographed and i've seen some absolutely awful loom band tutorials from other designers

Of course, you should only do what you're comfortable with doing.  Kiss  I share your discomfort of being in front of the camera, then finally decided that if it was only my hands showing, I would be okay.  Still, it's not entirely comfortable to me, but at least it's possible to do a video or two in a pinch!

You're right about videos, and not just in the loom band area.  Some people teach quite well and others don't teach well at all.  I remember trying techniques in knitting and crochet, special stitches or just something different, and sometimes I couldn't get it after seeing the videos, because the angle was wrong or the videos were out of focus.  Frown

Neave,

Ugh, I know that one.  Frown  It's really annoying, especially if your goal is to make something in particular, and you just want to get started.  Frown

Neave,

Did you ultimately learn, then?  Was your grandmom reluctant to teach you, or did she not have time?

I can relate...my Grandma never taught me to crochet, either.  Cry  And she did crochet.  I used to have runners and doilies that, when I complimented her on them, she picked them off of her furniture and gave them to me.  (My ex was a flaming idiot and "lost" them.  Cry)  But she was too far away for much of my life...she moved to Florida when I was 7 or 8, and after that our time together was very limited.  I had to learn on my own.  Cry

Do you crochet now, I hope?  Did you manage to find better crochet videos, I hope?  Smile

Neave,

Oh, no, I'm sorry!  Cry  How awful that she couldn't teach you.

Are you right or left handed?

I'm planning on doing some informal crochet videos/lessons, so if you're interested, we'll see what we can work out.  Smile

Neave,

Woo hoo, then I want to teach you!  Kiss  It's easier for me to teach right-handed people.  I once tried to learn left-handed crochet to teach it to other lefties and couldn't do it.  But it's a breeze for me to teach right-handed people.  Kiss
