Neave,

Oh, true!  They were filming a movie in the downtown area near where we lived a number of years ago.  There were such looooooooooong waits as they set up scenes to do the same things, again and again.  Though I'm guessing the music video turned out well?  Kiss  The movie I just mentioned...tanked.  Still seeing people holding their noses.  Wink

Neave,

I'm so glad!  Smile  Funny thing is that anything they've tried to film in these parts hasn't done too well.  There was a comedy movie filmed in a nearby town, because someone who was scouting locations happened upon a service station, and it was exactly what they were picturing.  I'm sure the guy who allowed them to film at his service station made a ton of money, even though the movie tanked!

There was a guy who allowed filming in his yard or something...man, he made great money!

And many years ago, one of my father's friends was photographed...photographed, mind you...with a cup of yogurt.  He made a ton of money, as well.  It was some exorbitant amount, and he kept getting money for it every time it was shown on any TV station!

Neave,

LOL, you're probably right...the only things that do well in this area are the advertisers and people who loan out their yards or whatever for ads to be made!  And I think the guy who did that yard thing was doing quite well for himself even before the ads.  It might have been the Budweiser frogs?  Okay, I'd never seen this before, so that explains it...he probably had a lot of frogs in his yard, maybe had one of those garden pools...this is the ad:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVcbasIb8lQ

The guy with the yogurt...this was many years ago, and I don't know where it happened, so probably not in this area at all.  But every time I'd watch that ad, I'd be thinking, "Man, that guy just got $X in his pocket!"  I don't remember what it was...$50, $100...but think, per station, per times it was played, and that would have been all over the place that it was shown.  So say there were 2500 TV stations and his photo showed 3 times/day on 2000 of them...even at only $50, that's $300,000...a serious chunk of cash!  And if he was making $100/showing, that would have been $600,000...for posing for a frigging picture!

Note to self: start making dumb commercials.  Wink

Neave,

Hahahahahahaha!  I think we need to do that...can you imagine making $300,000 in one day...and then making that amount again the next day, the day after, the day after that, etc?!  Boggles the mind!

Neave,

True, but maybe it's also a bit consoling that he didn't get the money for that long.  As you know, most commercials seem to have a very limited shelf life, thank goodness.  Not only do people have way too short attention spans to find ads interesting if repeated too long, but eventually certain campaigns make way for other ones, and "guy with yogurt cup" likely ended up in an ad agency's trash bin.  Set aside some cry time...  Wink

For his sake, I hope he banked some of that money!  If he blew it all on something, he's a big idiot...most people make do with plenty less than he made for that one photo!

Neave,

You know...from what I've seen over the years, people do some mighty stupid things.  I've seen people blowing money on crap many times.  I know some people who have blown money on meals out, gambling, buying drinks for people in bars...it's pretty outrageous.  I used to know a young married couple with two kids.  Life was hard for them, so they blew a lot of money on meals out, even though they couldn't afford to do that.  When they got a little bit of money in an inheritance...they blew that, too.  It was so sad to watch.  Cry

Another time they got another few thousand from some family thing, can't remember what it was, and they decided to take a vacation...because they "deserved" it.  When they had other bills arise, they had to borrow money to pay them.  They didn't like having to pay bills, they preferred spending on things that did nothing - but gave them temporary enjoyment.

Budgeting is one of the hardest things to do.  Nobody wants to go without...people would much prefer doing what they want and enjoying...but without big-time money, many people simply fail blatantly.  I don't know what the answer is to that.  If things were ideal, of course, everyone would have what they need, but things aren't ideal and people don't generally like to confront the ugly truth, that they have to go without luxuries, because it hurts.  Cry  Which doesn't make it my place to judge them, but at the same time, I've seen people throw away good advice (and good money) in favor of having a nice time.  Cry  People have thrown away huge inheritances, mind you, not just small ones like what the couple in question went through so quickly.
