Hi. This is my first attempt at crocheting a picture. I have the pictures, and the yarn, but i cant set up the graph over the picture. I need it to be 245 stitches across and 180 rows down. Your wizard is wonderful for getting the stitches for me but then gives me to many rows. Is there a way to set the number rows?

Thank you so much for this wizard! I have been looking for something like this for months.

The reason you're getting too many rows is because the freePatternWizard adjusts to the number of stitches across. So that the pattern doesn't distort, you can't choose the number of rows, because if you did, the pattern you're trying to make would look squashed, in this particular case.

There is one way I can suggest to work around it...you can add borders to your original picture, so the 245 stitches across include (for example) an extra 20 stitches on each side in a background or contrasting color. It may take a bit of experimenting with the border size to get the exact results you want, but this is the best way I can think of to get the proper row count.

I tried to add more stitches across and it added even more rows. I need the throws to be 4 feet across and 5 feet long. I know from doing other projects that 5 stitches across and 3 rows down make a 1 inch square.

Is there a way i can tell the wizzard to not make the picture bigger?

Also, when adding more stiches, is there a way to center the picure so the extra rows are on the outside of the picture?

No, you're not being difficult.

You can't just add more stitches across, because you're correct, that will only succeed in adding more rows. What you have to do is add borders to your image. If you can make your design wider with borders, then it will compensate so there are the same or fewer rows (depending on your number of stitches), if that makes any sense. That's how you get the extra stitches on the outside of the picture.

The freePatternWizard isn't making the picture bigger...it's only keeping the aspect ratio of your picture so it's not distorted in the pattern.
