Julie,

Welcome!  Smile

There's really no way of doing this at the moment.  The only thing I can suggest is to make the background white, as that will generate the smallest symbol possible.  Then you can perhaps make a note somewhere in your pattern that a dot symbol is the background color and to be ignored.

As of now, if it can be done, this will be something for a future version.  We have a list of about 100 more features we'd like to add, so if it's not already on the list, it can be added; however, we have no time frame of when this will be done.

Julie,

Since your picture is a pdf or similar file, insert the picture into a Word doc.

Then  click "Format" from your main toolbar.  Then "Remove Background".

(In my example, the pic had a border, but when I "removed background" only the part inside the dotted lines will be kept.  You may need to play with it a bit.)

Your pic will have a dotted square within it, which you may need to pull out with the handles to encompass your pic.  The part that appears in purple will be erased.  You can mark areas you want to keep or remove from the toolbar above, then "keep changes".

Then resave your upgraded pic to a pdf etc file.

When you then pull that pic into the cross stitch program you will hopefully have no (or much less) background to deal with.

Hope this helps.

Janice
