I just discovered the Pattern Wizard and love it!  Using a photo, it got the colors perfectly.  But  at my stage looking at the pattern is confusing.  I'd love to see a feature where is lists each row and how many of each color along that row.  Example - row 3 - 5 color A, 2 color B etc.

BeckyH,

Thanks for writing.  I'm doing some final changes to crochet word charts before I make them live.  When I first added word charts, the color descriptions were real long (because those are the official color names).  As of right this second, here's a clip of one line of the freePatternWizard's word chart and you'll see that I do need to change the color names for the charts:

Row 22: White sc10, Lime Green sc6, White sc3, Lime Green sc10, Baby Blue sc1,
Baby Blue - pale sc1, Blue Violet - very light sc2, Antique Blue - Ulight very light sc7, Blue Violet - very light sc3, Baby Blue - pale sc1, Baby Blue sc1, Burnt Orange - dark sc8, Baby Blue sc1, Baby Blue - pale sc2, Blue Violet - very light sc1, Antique Blue - Ulight very light sc3, White sc4, Antique Blue - Ulight very light sc2, Blue Violet - very light sc1, Baby Blue - pale sc1, Baby Blue sc1, Moss Green sc2, Lime Green sc3, Moss Green sc1, bright Orange-Red sc1, Apricot - medium sc1, bright Orange-Red sc11, Burnt Orange - dark sc3, Lime Green sc1, White sc8

So we're thinking of simplifying color names and/or do like you have; Color A, Color B, etc.

I think we'll make our final decision today and I'll change it in the program.  The crochet word chart function is actually working fine but we just need to make this change.

Timewise I'm hoping it'll come live sometime this week.  Then I'll do a word chart for beaders.

I'm so pleased with this addition. I wrote a couple of months ago for this very reason. You could also number the colors too. I'm just so happy for this. I'l try it as soon as it is ready!!. Thanks so much for doing this for us crocheters!!! Also a 'preview' would be nice too, to let us see the photo before we actually print it out!! Thanks again.

Hi, cale71!

Ok, I admit it, I'm so anal in programming, it'll be another few days as I add a few more related options.  Here's where I'm at right now:

  1. We'll be allowing you to choose the style you want to show in the word chart (like Color A, Color B, Color AA, Color AB...  or Color 1, Color 2...) (I'm open to others)
  2. We'll allow you to choose to create a pattern, word chart, or both
  3. In case of both, there will be a separate key page for the pattern and word chart
  4. I'll probably drop the sc for "single crochet" and make it something like: Color A 18, Color B 22... or Color A (18), Color B (22)... or I'm certainly open to suggestions.
  5. Both key pages (pattern and word chart) will include an image of the item
  6. We'll be adding some new palettes related to yarns with shorter color names and usually a manufacturer's yarn color number

As we go, there are several more related functions that will be added to make it easier to keep track of materials you'll need for a pattern.

Once I'm closer to having it ready, I'll give you a link that will let you preview the version with word charts.  We're always looking for feedback and suggestions.

Terry

Hi Terry,
Just wanted to know if the link is ready for the preview of the version of the wotd chart??  Or perhaps it's ready for us to do our photo patterns?? I've been patiently waiting for this feature to be added.

Good timing.  I'm getting ready to let you try it out.

I just added a new color palette last night with shorter color names, and a smaller list of colors for the word charts.

As of right now, I have one minor operational thing to fix and can then let you try it out.

I also need to finish the word chart page formatting so it shows a header and footer on each page but you'll be able to try it out before then.

So it could be today or tomorrow.

I've tested all the main functionality and it's working fine.  In section 7 you'll be able to choose to create a pattern only, word chart only, or both.  When word chart is selected, you can select Color Name, Color Letter, or Color Number.

So a particular crochet word chart line might be:
Row 7: White (31), Lime Green (13), Dark Green (1), Lime Green (23), White (32)
or
Row 7: Color A (31), Color J (13), Color I (1), Color J (23), Color A (32)
or
Row 7: Color 1 (31), Color 10 (13), Color 9 (1), Color 10 (23), Color 1 (32)

(These are actual lines from a test pattern using the Color Name, Color Letter, and Color Number settings.)

Also, these two new settings will be included in the Settings tab at the right, so if you only want word charts, you can set that as your default and it will always assume that unless you manually override it in section 7.

Like I say, this is all working fine.  And I'll certainly take feedback and suggestions so nothing is cast in stone.  I can always make changes.  I just needed a starting point.

I'll be back to you soon.

Terry

Hi again, Cale71 and BeckyH.

I just sent you both a link to a test version of the freePatternWizard which includes word charts.  Let me know if it doesn't let you in!

I sent the link through the Stitchboard mail system so you should see a new message pending at the top of your screens.

This new version includes word charts and also a new crochet tunisian square stitch.

When you have it set to default to create a word chart, it also defaults to the Stitchboard Word Chart Palette.  You can override this manually in section 7.

Also, in the current version, whatever palette is selected is used for both pattern and word chart.  I'm not sure yet how best to handle this.  The Stitchboard Word Chart palette has much shorter color names and is much smaller (fewer colors) than the standard Stitchboard palette.  I guess someone could select the Stitchboard standard palette and use either letters or numbers in a word chart.  This would give a larger palette but not try to print out the long color names in the word chart.

Also, this version only has a word chart option with crochet stitch. (BeckyH, I know you're waiting for a beading word chart!)  Beading will be coming as soon as I (we) finish testing everything and like the results.  So the only time you'll see the word chart option is when crochet is selected.  (Both word chart options will always show in the right default Settings tab.)

You'll also see that when both pattern and word chart are selected, it creates two separate key sheets.  I think this looks cleaner than loading up a single key page including sample color, pattern symbol, word chart letter or number, color name, count, and whatever else.  This way you can use either section of the pdf separately.  In effect having two separate pattern "booklets" in one pdf file.

There are still two final things to address... translations of the new text into the 15 languages, and the final formatting of the pdf word chart pages.  You'll see they're relatively simple right now. BTW, the new paging will also stop leaving a stray count at the beginning of some pages).

Let me know some feedback and suggestions.

Terry

Thank you for all of your hard work Terry!!

I was so excited I tested it out for beads and it seemed to be the same version.  But now I see that you haven't finished the bead version with the word charts.

I look forward to that!

Hi, Becky!

Yes, I'm making sure everything is with with crochet and will then implement the beading word chart.

I hope to have the pdf page formatting complete over the next few days and if no new problems crop up, I'll then address the beading charts.

So hang in there.

Hi everyone;

I;m new here and I'm wondering if there are beading word charts available. I'm horribly dyslexic so the word chart is very important...I can't read across the pattern - the lines jump in my vision.

Thanks for any help you can give me about this!
