...it's nice to be here...and all too brief, unfortunately. The move is nothing less than a total nightmare. I don't expect to surface until at least the first of the year, and after that, I plan to sleep for one solid week.

Melanie, actually it has been 4 days to spare... We give gifts on December 24. Wink

They all liked them a lot and I am eager to show you pictures but it will have to wait until I am back home at my computer!

I wish you all the best for the moving! I did that last year and know what a strain it can be! You have to look forward to your new home and somehow we muster the strength to go through with it even if we think we will never succeed!!

Sherry, did you finish your presents? I hope you did!!!

We do our gifts on the 24th as well.

I finished most everything, many of my gifts were edibles, so I was working like a mad woman to get them finished and into tins yesterday.

I'd finished the blanket and dish cloths. But not the hat and scarf set for my granddaughter, she knows I'm making them though, and is ok with waiting.
It's a tunisian cable pattern that I'm working out, so it takes a bit longer. I'm doing this set in red, but I'm a glutton for punishment and decided I'm going to do another set for her in blue, as well. Since this is taking longer, I hope to be able to get some pics to post.

Melanie, I do hope you get a chance to rest and recuperate.

So glad everyone was happy with what you made.

Thank you for the encouragement. Ugh, it really is stressful, and we're under a time constraint we weren't supposed to have, so it only makes it more miserable. I'm tired of being sore, cold and injured.

Even today...we're working.

No holidays for us.

Anyway, good job again on being done early...that's soooooooo terrific!

We do our gifts on the 25th, traditionally. We're just into delayed gratification, LOL!

Oooh, edibles...do tell!

Glad most of your crocheted gifts were done and your granddaughter is so sweet to wait.

Of course, I'm going to want to see pics.

Thank you...well, resting and recuperating will have to wait at least a week.

And still no idea if we'll be done.

Moving is always so stressfull anyway, ((((((hugs)))))).

I made peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate, those are kind of a family tradition. I also made eggless chocolate chip cookie dough balls dipped in white chocolate. Most everyone got a tin of each.
There was also chocolate and peanut butter fudges, cookies of course, and mocha cream pies, meant to be eaten frozen like ice cream.

After all that cooking, we had carnitas from the mexican store for dinner on the 24th, plus my son's gf brought us homemade tamales. (YUM!) My poor hubby about made himself sick with the carnitas and tamales.

Then, of course, yesterday we had the open house with ham and trimmings, and more tamales.

Thanks, hon, the hugs are greatly appreciated...and sending hugs right back to you!

It's horrible...I'm sore and tired every day, but all I can do is move along.

Thankfully, we haven't had a lot of cold, blustery days...though we've had enough, sigh. Just enough to make it that much more miserable...because moving isn't miserable enough.

Oh, yum, I'm going to have to adopt myself into your family

, because those treats sound delish! Never mind "real" food...give me that dessert!

I've never had carnitas or tamales...they sound sooooooooooo good!

We've really never had a good Mexican restaurant nearby, sadly.

Though there's one within walking distance of us now, and years ago I'd heard good things about the place, so we definitely want to try it! You probably have an abundance of great choices...soooo jealous...we only have a handful of places here.

The one that was closest to us in the other place was absolutely awful. We could never understand what the fuss was about...I felt better when my neighbor, who was half Mexican, said she and her family couldn't stand that place...and recommended the one near us now.

We'd tried unsuccessfully over the years to get to this one, and finally now we'll be so close by!

LOL, can we move near you for the food?

Seriously, it sounds soooooooooooo good and I'm glad you had a lovely holiday!

I wish I could have you over, even if it's just long enough to feed you a good hot meal, right now. Maybe a nice hot cup of tea or cocoa, as well.

You're right, we do have lots of Mexican restaurants. Texican is a little different than west coast Mexican food, a bit spicier.
We also have many Mexican grocery stores, as well as Asian and Mediterranean stores.

Carnitas is a fried pork dish, a whole pork butt is fried. That sounds like it would be very greasy, but it isn't. It's just tender and moist.

We get these rolls, called bollilos (about the size of a hoagie roll) and stuff it with the meat and some pico de gallo made fresh at the store.
I can feel my arteries hardening, just talking about it all.

But this is only a couple of times a year.

Awww, thank you.

That sounds soooooooooo good, and the company would be top notch.

I probably wouldn't like Texican...I know Mexican food can be adjusted on spice, though, so I just ask for everything to not be made spicy.

While that's mainly because it bothers my stomach, it's also now that spicy foods make hot flashes worse.

But I do want to find a good Mexican place and am hoping the one here will be great.

I don't get into pork, but man, carnitas...that sounds absolutely delish!

It really shouldn't make much difference to your health to have it only a couple of times a year.

Anyway, my arteries are hardening, too, from your description...and my mouth is watering!

Getting very hungry here!

We had a lovely day yesterday weatherwise...around 50 degrees, nice sun...now the temps are plunging, and we're still not finished.

Talking about getting a truck for the furniture now, but we have a lot of work on this end to get the furniture in, since we've had no time on this end to do more than pile up boxes.

We're also working later and later at night, just to get things moving along.

Maybe you could send that hot meal through the mail (and yourself for the company)?

I can't do the chilis anymore either.

But there are many flavorful spices that can be used without the chili.
My son's gf made a special batch of tamales for me, to insure that I didn't have a reaction to them.

With all that food made up. I haven't had to cook since Thurs. so I got a little vacation from the kitchen.

I guess it's too much to hope that the nice weather would hold out for a few more days.

Wouldn't it be totally awesome if we could send food through the internet? E-dinner!

Awww, I'm sorry you can't have the hot spices anymore.

I can completely relate to how much it can suck, and especially with all of that Mexican/Texican food so close by!

At least where we are, it's not as much of a temptation, since we don't have as much of it available.

How sweet of your son's gf to make the tamales up special so you could eat them!

Oooh, a vacay from the kitchen...always welcome!

Home cooked food is the best, but it just gets soooooo tiring to cook all the time.

Yeah, we're expecting a day with 18 degrees high and 5 degrees low in a couple of days.

It would have been nice to not have to worry about it. Even the clerk at Walmart a couple of weeks ago felt bad for us having to move in the winter.

Oh, well, at least I'm thankful we don't have snow on the ground. But I'll probably have to wear cotton gloves (if they can be found) with hand cream for about a week just to get rid of the dry skin and chapped/cracked hands!

LOL, oh, yeah, e-dinner!

So want it! But you'd also have to send e-Sherry.

I don't think the e-dinner without the e-Sherry would be quite as good.
