Thank you so much for complementing me on my crocheting and on my English! (thank God there are online dictionaries!!!)

You are correct, it does look vertical. I have measured 10 stitches vertically and horizontally and they differ from each other for about 1mm. I am still in the process of making my pattern perfect. Terry has helped me a lot by upgrading me to 300 stitches in the pattern wizard, so I am not yet decided how large the picture will be. I am planning a blanket for my boyfriend with the logo of our favorite soccer club, so I now have to figure out how large to make the logo and how broad the edges around it will be. This will be a nice work for this weekend!

I am, in fact, not only a knitaholic, but I am also a numbers geek. I have made an xls-sheet, where I can input the colors via a number (1-6), and it will then calculate how much percent each color makes from the whole to determine my yarn needs. Of course, the sheet is formatted, so that when I enter a number it automatically shows the color it is supposed to be... :p

I can't wait to have the perfect pattern, because based on that, I know how much yarn to order (how many skeins of each color) and then I will still have to wait for the shipping...

Fortunately, there are still a few Christmas present projects I have to finish, so I am not bored until I can finally start with the blanket!

LOL, somehow, if your excellent English were all based on online dictionaries, it wouldn't be excellent!

You write better in English than a lot of native English speakers I know...seriously!

As long as you use the vertical stitch when creating your pattern, you're good to go.

And your blanket sounds wonderful! I'm sure it will be a cherished gift for many years to come.

Your xls file sounds ingenious! Have you thought of selling it for other knitaholics and crocheters to use?

It sounds like you're in a yarn desert, too.

Isn't it a shame that you can't touch the yarns when you order online? I miss that about yarn stores.

Our local one closed up ages ago and now if I need some special yarn, I have to mail order.

It's simply not the same.

Do you have a very long list of presents to make? Sigh, I always do, so I can relate!

Thanks a lot!! I am proud to hear that about my English. I am lucky, I need it at work rather often. And also, it helps a lot to watch American TV shows!! That sounds silly, but it tremendously helped me with "normal" spoken English, proverbs, pronunciation, etc. Also, the German translations stink in comparison to the original!

I have not thought of selling the xls, but I am glad to offer it if anyone has use for it. I am still making out the details, but when my pattern is ready, I am happy to show it to you, so you can estimate whether it would be helpful for fellow crocheters / cross stitchers / knitters!

I actually have a little yarn shop just a few minutes away by foot, but they do not have a wide variety of choices and are rather expensive. I was really lucky, a facebook friend of mine (I never met her personally), who is in the same crafting group on facebook recommended a specific yarn which is very cheap online, it is only 1€ per skein (50g / 196m). She was so kind to send me one of her skeins so that I could feel it and try it. I am really grateful for that! I like the yarn, it is 100% acrylic, but that is good for a blanket I think and I will order it as soon as I know my needs.

For smaller projects, I like to use the little shop or another really wonderful shop in Vienna, the "Wollmeile". But since I will need about 40 skeins, it makes a big difference if one skein is 1 or 2,5 Euros! Wink

Another question to a completely different matter: I have found the members' photo albums and really like them. I would like to create one to show you some of my works (some of the Christmas presents are already done!

). But obviously, I am too stupid to find the function to create one... Can you help me, please? Wink

That's $1.28 here by the conversion rate at the moment. Certainly, I can't get it that cheap here! The cheapest acrylic is still over $2, closer to something like $2.88 per skein.

Glad you have access to a shop in a pinch, but wow, they're so much more expensive! What does "Wollmeile" mean...is that something like "Wool mile"? (Just a guess. LOL, I've yet to master English.

Nooo worries...you definitely aren't stupid at all! The photo albums take a bit to figure out...they'll change eventually to something much more user-friendly. For now, though, we're stuck with them.

Here's what you do. Go to the "social" tab and choose "member photo albums." In the left-hand panel on that page, you'll see a choice called "Your photo albums." Click on that and then when the screen changes, in that same area, you'll see a choice called "Create new album." Click on that and it will ask you for a title, description and tags. Once you hit "save," you'll be able to browse your computer for the images you want to put in your photo album and also name each one and enter a description, if you'd like.

If you still have any trouble, please do let me know and I'll arrange to get your photos into a photo album.

I hope your weather is at least warm? We're a bit on the chilly side, not raining since a day or two ago, and definitely overcast and gloomy. Hopefully it will warm up a bit over the next couple of days! (Though tomorrow is still supposed to be a bit chilly.) Is this your normal weather for this time of year?

Oh, I wish I were a translator. I am working as administrative staff / project manager at a scientific institute. Amongst other stuff, we coordinate a network for health promoting hospitals in Austria. This network does also have an international "big brother". For the international network we are managing the annual network conference which is held in another country every year. We have been to Barcelona, Spain, this year and will be in Oslo, Norway, in 2015. We are responsible for the programme of the conference, the abstract management and so forth. Conference language is English, so there are a looooooot of emails I write every year to people from all over the world!

Sometimes, there are also phone calls which can be much more difficult, especially if the caller is Asian. I have real problems with the Asian accent, it is so hard to understand!

You are exactly right! Wollmeile means wool mile literally. Though we do not use the term "mile" as a measure of length, it can be loosely translated as "mall".

I think I am really lucky with this yarn. As said, I am forever grateful for this recommendation by my facebook friend!

Also, the wool shops tend to have a small offer of acrylic yarns, somehow they are recepted as low quality. So the shops mostly sell nature fibres and more expensive yarn...

Concerning the photo albums: I have been there, but I do not get an option "create new album". This is what I get:

Also, I just tried to create a photo album in one of the circles. But I cannot insert pictures there like I can here, I have to give an URL instead of browsing for my pic on my computer...

We have had a lousy summer this year, but October has been much warmer than usual. Therefore, a rainy day is not that bad. Today it is already looking friendlier. Normal temperature for October is about 15° Celsius. It can go up to 20 but also stay at 10...

I am working on my xls now and I am glad to show it to you when I am done. I am not completely sure if it is useful to sell. I am no programmer and I believe it is difficult to have a file that works with individual sizes and colors... But I am glad to adapt my xls-template to individual needs free of charge, if somebody has use for it. Let's see when I am done and you could look at it!

Thanks to this site, wonderful Sherry and Melanie, and a few more tutorial videos I watched I feel like I have finally fully grasped the concept of Tunisian crochet!

My final gauge swatch was 30 stitches and 30 rows and is a square as perfect as a square can get. I have put some hours into my pattern today and will be able to order my yarn tomorrow.

Melanie, I will write you a PN as soon as my xls-file is ready for you to have a look at it!

Right now, I am taking a break from crocheting and creating my pattern and am at the stadium to support my soccer team!

So glad to read you like my work!

Actually, I noticed I cannot finish my pattern today. My boyfriend is at home and he is not supposed to see it... It will be a challenge to finish the blanket when I can only work on it with him not around... But I'll figure it out!

I do not necessarily need you help. I just thought you may want to look at my file in order to decide whether it could be helpful for others! I will let you know as soon as I am done!

The game was a real disappointment yesterday... But fortunately they did not loose (thought they would have earned it...).Let's hope the next one will be better! Wink

You've done such a beautiful job...how could I not like your work?

Argh, that's so frustrating, trying to work a surprise around a gift recipient when that person is there with you! I know that one very well, sigh. My husband is always underfoot when there's a surprise. Of course!

I also hope you can finish without any unplanned reveal of the project.

Anytime...I'll be very happy to look at your file.

Argh, how annoying that the game wasn't enjoyable. Glad they didn't lose, though! Hope the next one is much better.

working on my pattern again. Unfortunately, I am on sick leave. Nothing major, but I feel tired and have headaches. Will continue with the pattern as long as my head allows and will rest a lot in between... At least this gives me the chance to finally finish and order my yarn!

I have given myself a long timeframe to finish my project, so I am confident I can do it without him seeing. He sometimes has to work weekends, so this is my chance! Wink

Glad you have some time to concentrate on your pattern, and I'm sorry you're on sick leave...though glad it's for nothing major.

Do you know what might be causing your tiredness and headaches?

I get bad migraines here and there - thankfully, not all that often. But when I do get them, they can be so bad I can barely think, let alone get anything accomplished.

It's wonderful that you'll have some solid, uninterrupted time to work on your boyfriend's gift, and best of all, without him seeing.

LOL, the most trying time I had with hiding a gift was a heavy hydraulic jack I'd bought for my husband. I couldn't even lift the thing myself! It was hidden over at the neighbors' house. My husband thought I'd bought it and was even expecting to get it when we went over to the neighbors' house that day...but I fooled him...nothing at the neighbor's house, so he had no idea what I'd bought for him! I had the neighbor bring it over later and put it in the garage. Snicker. LOL, thank goodness crochet isn't heavy like that, huh!
