Hi All

I haven't been tunisian crocheting very long,i have researched it,done a small piece of tunisian crochet,watched alot of youtube videos.I joined this site a few days ago because i wanted to TSS a picture/logo blanket .I found the wizard put my logo in and when i went to view it i thought the graph was the wrong way for TSS because of a video i watched on youtube called : How to turn knitting graph into tunisian crochet graph

For those who don't use youtube
In the video the knitting graph is wide oblong like TKS,she makes a circle on the knitting graph and Tunisian Simple Stitches the circle which comes out a very streached oval because the stitch is tall not wide.
So she rotates the graph and re TSS the graph and it comes out more like a circle

Lol anyway enough of the woffling
Getting to the point

I think the graph on the wizard for tunisian crochet is the wrong way for TSS
Thinking about it maybe there should be other options to select if your doing Tunisian Simple Stitch (Tall graph) or Tunisian Knit Stitch (wide graph)

What do you guys and gals think???

Welcome!

So glad you posted on this issue, and I hope we'll get some thoughts on it soon!

This is so great to work it out so all possible options are available in the Free Pattern Wizard!

My guess is the different Tunisian stitches have different measurements. For instance, I know Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS) is a very short stitch...at least that's my grasp of why it curls so badly and is very, very tight when crocheted row after row (and it takes forever, LOL!).

It may be that there are different Tunisian stitches that work different ways...some may be taller vertically or wider horizontally.

This is such a great discussion to have!

Sherry (BetwixtTheStitch) is our resident expert on Tunisian, so I can't wait to hear her thoughts on this!

Welcome.

You're absolutely right that TSS is taller than it is wide. At the moment, the pattern wizard is best for TKS.

I'd be more than happy to help with the gauge so that we can have the different options in the pattern wizard.

Tunisian should really be thought of quite differently than either knit or crochet because the gauge is so different.
Sure, you can get close to a knit gauge with TKS, but the resulting fabric is very stiff with little to no drape at all.

TSS stitches aren't even close to either knit or crochet.

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge on the subject!

Sounds like we need to differentiate TSS and TKS, then.

Hopefully we can have a solution for it soon that will be helpful to all.

I thought of something last night that may be helpful for now.

The larger the hook you use, the less difference there is between height and width.

For instance, with worsted weight (4) yarn it is possible to get an almost square stitch by using an L or P hook.

Here in Ireland we don't get the same thickness of yarn to the US (It's rubbish really,very

hard trying substitute one yarn for another)

No worries...we'll adjust the Free Pattern Wizard as necessary...it would be unhelpful for it to be producing the wrong results.

Wow, we like to complain about the inconsistency in how these "standards" are applied,
but it sounds like it may be worse for you.

If the yarn you are using is in the medium size range, then a P hook (10mm) would give you almost square stitches.

If it's on the thinner side, I'll have to check my notes.

i was going to buy wool from an american site but it will cost a fortune to send it to ireland Sad

I bought some new hooks so i can start a tunisian blanket they arrived a few days ago not had chance to give them ago yet as i have a crochet baby blanket and a lovey to finish and a superman to start so as soon as i have these done ill be starting

im itching to use my new hooks so im rushing to finish my wips

It's such a shame there aren't any good, inexpensive sources for you to get wool.

It's such a shame shipping from here to Ireland would be way expensive.

So glad you got some new hooks!

We do have a final determination on the Tunisian crochet stitches (thank you, Sherry, BetwixtTheStitch!), and hopefully that part of it will be implemented soon, to get you the most accurate results.

Sorry i'm only just getting back to you now,pregnancy,no sleep and back pain and the heat we have had has taken its toll on me, Sad

i have 6 weeks to go now i can't wait till she gets here.
Sherry i love getting anything new for the crafts i do

The hooks i bought are Boyne Artisan Tools still haven't had chance to use them Sad

lost my crochet mojo for a little while but it's coming back slowly

We don't really have the selection of hooks/kneedles as you do over there,thats why i treated myself to the Boyne set,We have only just started to get clover and prym with plastic grip handles in store Sad

.
I buy loads of yarn i find it very hard to go to our local store and only buy the yarn i need

we are moving house soon and its abit smaller than this one Sad

i have to start using my stash as we wont have a built in wardrobe to put it all in,LOL my partner wants to share the wardrobe in the new house

So sorry that you haven't felt up to par, but it will be over soon and you'll have a beautiful baby to show for it.

I can still relate to the back pain and heat, though. Last year I rushed to get things made for my great grandbaby while it was cool enough. Now I have another grandbaby due in Nov. and I'm crossing my toes it will cool down long enough for me to make things for him.

Buying only what you need? I'm confused, don't we always need more?

I have to confess that my stash has taken over the front room (which has become my craft room), but it also migrates into the living room. Every so often, I have to reprimand the errant balls of yarn and put them back.

I started a baby blanket with this wonderful soft, fuzzy yarn from Bernat called Pipsqueak.
It recommends a J hook, but I'm using an L hook and tss. The stitches are pretty much lost in the fuzzines, but it will make a nice warm winter blanket for those bitter midwest winters.
The down side is that we just started our hottest part of the year, and this stuff is really warm to work with.
