Questions
April 28, 2014 at 11:18:28 PM

Hello. First off, let me say that I am loving this site. It has renewed by excitement about cross stich and even my son wanta to try! He loves that he could pick his project and I could creat a pattern for him. His first lesson is tomorrow.
It would be amazing to make some projects a little larger than 150x188, I have a few I would like to see larger.
Also, some of the options at the bottom of the pattern maker, I have to confess, I don't understand what they mean or what they do. It would be great to understand what they do, how they work so that I could properly apply them to my patterns. I have a few that are being difficult, I suspect one of those magic boxes would help fix up my problems, but I have no clue as to which one to use... lol
If someone could dumb down the simple tools, that would be great!
Etc - Antialias (no idea what this word even means)
How does blur work? What is Gaussian blur?  What does edge detection do? Emboss?  Sketch?
And stray pixel clean up, when would I want to use this?
So many questions... Sorry!

Hi, and feel free to ask your questions here!  It helps others too!

Where do I start?

First, in response to your question about being limited to 150 stitches across... As I've mentioned in previous messages, this number was kind of arbitrarily set.  I actually tested the program once using over 3000 stitches across and it worked fine.  But if I left the setting totally open, it would tend to bog down the server a bit so I set it at a reasonable number.  I may raise it in the future as I finish writing more of the program.

The good news is I just upped your account to allow you up to 300 stitches across.  The general setting will still remain at 150 for logged-in members but I tend to raise accounts of users who would like more.  So you can now create charts up to 300 across.  I think your height limit is now 1000.

In answer to most of your other questions, take a look in the freePatternWizard "help" area.  When you're at the patternWizard page, at the top is a little bar with a "help" option.  In there I explain (briefly) what things like antialias, blur, gaussian blur, edge detection, emboss, and sketch do.

I explain the "Stray pixel cleanup" function in this message.

Finally, I'm trying to get to adding a bunch of little videos demonstrating each of the functions, as well as showing hints and tricks.  I'm not sure yet if I'll start uploading them in May or not.  I'm busy getting 3 new features working asap.

Hope this answers your questions and feel free to post again with other questions or for more clarification.  We love to hear from people using the program!  It helps keep me excited and wanting to keep building the program!

Thanks again, and have fun!

Terry

Thank you everyone!! The info is much appreciated! I will pour over the Help notes.

My son started his first project tonight, a dragon. Very boy type project. He likes it, he is ADD, so the hope is that the touch stimulation of guiding a needle will benefit him. We will be sure to post pics!!
