That actually is a great talent to have, to tune out extraneous noise!  It's very difficult to do.  I once worked as a programmer for a company where I was left alone to do my thing, but in the same room was a same guy who was learning something very different from what I was doing.  So I had to tune out the two guys talking all day...believe me, this was extremely difficult!  One day the guy who was learning commented on how remarkable it was that I was able to tune them out...ugh, I didn't have a choice!    It was either tune them out or get nothing done and get fired!

LOL, there is little danger of someone walking into the room and turning on the TV.  Hubby doesn't tend to want to watch TV.  So it's just me, at least until the cat decides to do some channel surfing.  Thankfully, she's showed little inclination to do so, and no interest in general in watching the "idiot box." 

If she grows opposable thumbs, though, we may be in trouble!

Argh, it's so easy to get distracted, isn't it?  I do that all the time. 

Smoking a brisket, hmm?  Do you use a filter?  Light it up on one end and kind of wave it in the air?    LOL, sorry, couldn't resist!  Seriously, I hope you finally got your forecast.  And that sounds so delish! 

Awww, that's one smart kitty!    They definitely are very smart...they figure things out so quickly!    LOL, sometimes too quickly...one time hubby put our kitty up on the dryer, where she'd never been before.  Of course, the next day she figured out how to get back up there on her own, where she proceeded to find a lovely little area between the wall and the dryer.  She jumped down there...and then realized there was no way out!    Oh, noes!  We heard the clunk of her jumping down, called and called for her, and couldn't find her anywhere.  Because she has two meows.  The one is an ear-splitting yowl, meant to demand food in the morning.  That one can be heard for miles!    The other is a shy little high-pitched meow.  And that was the one she chose to tell us she was in trouble.  Sigh.

Anyway, she was rescued from her peril with no small amount of trouble...and now the laundry area is closed off unless we're doing laundry.  But leave it to that cute little troublemaker to figure out how to get up on the dryer, which is quite high and probably wasn't easy to get up to that level!

Hee hee!  It must be kind of heavy at first! 

Oh, yeah, you don't want to get it all messed up!  Better to plan for a perfectly clear day. 

Yeah, poor girl was afraid, because she didn't have the clearance to jump back up on the dryer.    Anyway, afterwards she seemed none the worse for wear, so hopefully it's not something she remembers. 

Of course, it's impossible to explain to them why they can't do certain things, sigh.
