Melanie,

She chose to sew them together, she does a lot of hand sewing and is more confident with that than with crochet. So that may or may not change with time. Wink

Had a lot to do yesterday (there's never as many hours in the day as we think Undecided), so I didn't get the pics of the scarf yet.

OTOH, I got to cuddle with the baby. Kiss He's absolutely perfect.

Woo hoo, 2 down. Laughing Breath holding and fingers crossing.

Sherry,

Wow, that's super...now you've got someone to hand sew for you!  Wink  LOL, probably one of the more tedious things, but if she likes it, why not?!

I understand not being able to take pics...it's so hard to get good ones, isn't it?  Frown  I fight and struggle...I swear, things must move around when we're not looking, because they're harder to photograph than furchildren!  Wink

Awwww!  Kiss  Sounds like a good reason to not get pics!  Kiss

LOL, thanks for the breath holding and finger crossing!  Wink  I got started on a second one of set #3, but didn't get as much as halfway in, so that's the next "TV watching" task!

Melanie,
I did manage to get a pic, it's not great, but it shows the cables.

This is the one from the pattern in Kim Guzman's book that called for an I hook, but I used the P
It's not finished, so I haven't "evened" up the sides yet. Wink

But you see how the WW almost appears to be bulky?

I can't finish it until I can get to Jo Ann and get more yarn, but I'll need more to make the hat anyway.

Still holding breath and crossing fingers. Smile

Sherry,

Wow, that looks fantastic - great job!  Kiss

The sides don't look all that uneven, but with the inherent wonkiness of TKS, I completely agree with pulling a row of sc there.  That flimsy outside strand is just asking to be pulled out of shape, but with a sc securing it, it will have a nice, firm edge.

It definitely looks bulky.  It doesn't look at all like WW!  I think that was the perfect call to go with the P hook.  The I hook would make it like cardboard.  I may have used an H, which is smaller, but it's close enough to know it's too small.  And there's very little difference between H and I, but a clear difference between I and P sizes!  Just looking at the two side by side shows how different they are.

Do you think you'll be able to get a close enough dye lot?  I don't trust the "no dye lot" yarns anymore since I had so much trouble with them.  Yell

Thanks for the encouragement!  Kiss  No TV last night (at least nothing on that I watch) so I didn't get anything new done at all.  Frown

Melanie,

Thank you, I'll probably try a sl st around with a J or K hook to start with and see how it goes.

I'm going to take a scrap of that yarn with me and hopefully it will be close enough. So cross your fingers for me please. Wink Though I won't be able to go before Fri.

Sherry,

Oh, yeah, I'd forgotten about the slip stitch...I definitely think that would make the perfect edging!  Kiss

Is the scarf at a stage where you could bring it to the store without messing it up?  That's my suggestion.  I've tried with scraps...sigh, I can never tell with something that's too small.

One that drove me crazy was a blue yarn for a baby blanket, because I had bought the yarns years before I finished it, so the second purchase was many years apart.  Yell  I tried so hard to match the scraps and finally had to take the entire bloody thing to the store.  The match was close, but not perfect...thankfully, not enough to tell, though I did sweat it out!

I take it Friday is cricket time?  Wink

Melanie,

I'll probably take the whole darn thing then. Wink I've always had dumb luck with it, but better to be safe.

Yes, Friday is cricket time. Laughing So I'm calculating what I need for the hat and scarf, plus what I need to finish the Tardis blanket for my niece.

Blue is one of the particularly hard to match colors, I really don't want to carry both projects with me but I guess I'm going to have to. Tongue Out

Sherry,

Yeah, unfortunately, that would be my suggestion, just take the whole thing so you can really see how good the match is.  It's so infuriating that the dye lots don't always match, because I believe most (if not all) acrylics are considered "no dye lot," but that doesn't mean they all match!  Yell  I'm so glad you've been lucky with that in the past!  Kiss

Gotta love that cricket time!  Laughing

Tardis blanket?  Please do tell!  Smile  I don't remember talking about this before...but with my lousy memory, it's not surprising we may have already.  Undecided

Blue is incredibly difficult to match.  Yell  That's the color - a dark blue - where I had two or three entirely different shades of what was allegedly no dye lot!  Yell  I hope the blanket isn't so big and bulky by now that it will cause problems?!

Well, I've had no more progress on dishcloths, sigh.  No TV, no dishcloths.  It's not conducive to working, say, here at my desk, and I don't want to do this at the dinner table or anything like that!  Surprised  So watching TV is really the best time, and if nothing is on, nothing gets done.  Yell

Melanie,

I have a small ball of the blue I can take, so that will make it easier I hope. Undecided

I'm making a blanket inspired by the Tardis, using RH Royal blue. I'll need to pick up the white today too, for the windows and I'll probably edge it in white.

I'm doing it in TKS, though I'm thinking that I may do the windows in TSS for the textural contrast as well. I won't know if I like it until I try it.

When I was visiting my son I did a lot of crochet sitting at the table. Surprised I was teaching my DIL and the light was best in the kitchen.

Sherry,

I'm glad you have some of the blue left over to take with you!  Smile  I agree...that really should make it easier than dragging the entire thing over there!

I'm not positive, but I think the blue I bought is RH Royal Blue.  Smile  I hope you'll be taking pics of the blanket, because it sounds awesome!  Love the idea of something inspired by the Tardis!  Kiss

I think it's going to look particularly nice in TKS.  And I agree that TSS would give it a textural contrast...if the gauge doesn't work out, you could always try TPS or something.  Kiss

Ouch, sitting at the table sounds kind of painful!  Surprised  Or maybe it sounds that way mostly because my back has been hurting so much lately.  Frown  Though I agree with going where the light is the best!

Melanie,

I was able to match the blue pretty well. Smile I started a new skein on it and there's no visible variation, I bought 3 more skeins of the blue so cross your fingers that I did as well on all of them. Wink

I'm thinking I'll switch to a bit smaller hook for the TSS, I think it's a tad taller than TKS.

Sitting at the table was actually better for me at their house, the chairs were more comfortable than the sofa for my back.
My problems are in the mid back region, which has totally different issues than low back. But I didn't have pain the whole time I was there. Smile

Sherry,

I'm so glad you were able to match the blue with no visible difference!  Kiss  (Though how about I cross my toes instead, okay?  I can't type with my fingers crossed and can still walk with my toes crossed!  Wink)

So then are you going with L or N for TSS?

Oooh, are those the padded chairs?  The chairs I find most uncomfortable for my back are the wooden ones.  My former neighbor had those, and wow, I was in so much pain when I'd go to leave!  They really messed up my back, and that was even before I had back problems!

Wow, the mid back...no way, me too!  I have both lower and mid-back problems, though thankfully not always both at the same time.  I'm so glad you didn't have back pain while you were there!  Kiss  It really doesn't seem to matter where the pain is located...back pain is the worst!  Frown

Melanie,

I can get away with a K hook for the TSS. Surprised It's the closest, off just a tad, but will work for just the part I have in mind.

The interesting thing about the chair was that it was a simple molded plastic lawn chair.
They only had 2 dining chairs and brought the lawn chair in for my son, but I found it to be the most comfortable for me. Smile

They also had a memory foam mattress topper on the bed, so between the two, I was in good shape.
Needless to say, I got one of those mattress toppers for myself as soon as possible. Wink

Sherry,

I'm so glad you can work it out to keep the size "uniform"!  Kiss  And especially being able to use the K hook, since it's a much more "common" size.  Smile

Let me know how that works out, as I may have some ideas and am very interested in hearing how it goes!  Kiss  LOL, "playtime" will not happen soon enough!  Wink  Sigh.  Sadly, I'm still on the ascending side of the mountain of dishcloths and won't see the other side until...I don't know when, so experimentation, "playtime," will be delayed indefinitely.  Frown

Wow, a plastic lawn chair?!  I tried one of those (early on in a move, no other chairs available Yell), and man, that sure racked me up!  I'm so glad it was the opposite for you!  Kiss  Hey, when something works...it works!  And the price is right on those, too.  Smile  What's cool is if you don't like the way it looks, you can always make a cover for it.  I've seen really pretty knitted ones and there are probably crochet patterns, too...or you could just do your own thing!  Kiss

Unfortunately, my back can barely handle those chairs for sitting on while outsideFrown

Ooh, so those memory foam mattress toppers work?  Smile  Do tell!  Kiss

Glad to hear you got one for yourself, since it helped your back!  Kiss

I'm anxious to hear what you have to say about those...wondering if maybe that would help us...both of us have bad backs, sigh, plus he has hip problems now (maybe arthritis) and I've woken up with both hip pain and leg pain.  It may be our mattress...I really don't know.  Frown

Melanie,

I love my memory foam topper. Kiss It's really helped my back sooo much.

The one I slept on at my son's was 1 1/2 inches thick, on top of a firm bed and worked really well.
I bought a 2 inch thick one and for the first time in many years, I wake up not hurting. Kiss
They are so much less expensive than replacing a mattress.

I'll report back on the trial with the K hook when I get far enough to try it.
