colors changing when choosing different stitch for same photo

Hello Ladies!
I am hoping you can help me. I have a photo I am trying to convert to a pattern and in trying out the different stitches,I noticed that the color selection changes depending on which styitch you choose. Do you know why? Is there anyway around this?
For example, I thought I would use the RAW and selected 55 colors max, got a bead list and started to  gather these beads. Now I ave decided that the RAW will not work the best nd so have tried peyote, etc. For each stitch I choose, the color/beads change. i made sure that I was still elcting the same number, 55, the same pallette, Miyuki seed bead, same width, everythinhg exactly the same. i even tried to tell it what colors to use and some "got dropped" as I went to print it out via PFD. Help? thank you. I really like the software and this site. thanks again

Faith,

Thanks for the question.  Now for my first answer.  I'm not sure.  (Sorry)  Let me think it through.

I'm assuming no other settings (i.e. Contrast, brightness...) have changed.

In other words, you set the number of colors at 55, uploaded a photo and selected RAW, and did the same and selected something like brick.  And the colors came out different.

I'll glance at it and do a couple tests and will be back to you asap.

Faith,

Here's some information regarding the issue.

What's causing the problem:

Currently, all colors and color image processing in the PatternWizard use RGB colors.  A drawback of image processing with RGB colors is that changing image size also changes colors somewhat.  For example, I loaded a little 100x120 pixel image of Hello Kitty into Photoshop.

I then noted the RGB color numbers that make up the little leaf on the apple in the image.

Next, I reduced the image down to 99 pixels across (from 100).

There are changes in the image clarity and actual colors.  There are new RGB colors introduced.

This is all by simply reducing the image by 1 pixel in width.

Since the PatternWizard processes its colors in RGB, it is subject to the same issue.  By changing between stitch types (RAW vs Brick vs Loom), there are slight changes in the number of pixels that make up the image to keep it proportional.

One Solution:

The only solution right now is what it sounds like you've already done.  Use the manual colors option, enter the colors it first chose when you did it in RAW.  It may drop a few colors if the closest color in the new resized image (with the color shifts) is no longer needed.  So this is why it did not choose all the colors you manually entered.

Real Solution:

Yes, more work for me! Laughing There is another way of processing image colors that should solve this issue.  I tested it in Photoshop and the colors remained intact.  You might still lose the need for a bead color here and there but the color shifting does not happen.

I need to see if I can implement this in a new version of PatternWizard, how difficult it would be (whether this new feature would be implemented in the next version), and whether we would lose anything if I switched the whole program to this new method, or whether I would allow the user to choose.  Anyway, here I go getting technical.  I'll look at it over the next several days and see if it's something that could be implemented very soon.

Thanks for your question and we'll keep you informed.

Thank you Terry for helping to resolve this. I appreciate your hard work and swift response.  I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Thanks again.

Faith,

No problem.  I just implemented another unrelated change to the PatternWizard so I'll next turn into this issue and see if it'll be an easy change.

I'll keep you informed.
